Washing baby clothes. When did / will you do it.

I'm 33 weeks and everything is brought. Unpacked etc in the right drawers blah blah.
But want to start washing and ironing it all but dp says I'm loopy for doing it this early. But I love to be organised. But on the other hand I like things really fresh so wondering if now is too early?
Was thinking I could then pack my hospital bag in the next few weeks once it's all done.

I'm 36 weeks. Hospital bags packed (since 34 weeks) and baby's clothes in there are washed. I'm going to start washing the rest of the clothes this week because he could come any time now!!

I'm 36 weeks with baby number two and I have everything washed and in the drawers ready as of start of last week so I don't think it's to early. To be honest I'm spending all my time lying down now as I'm exhausted and huge so I would go for it while you have the inclination. I'm now looking at everything convinced it's been shrunk but I'm hoping that's just coz I'm used to my 18month olds clothes hahaha

I washed everything at 35 weeks (I'm 36 weeks now). I had my first at 37 weeks, so I was really conscious (and a little panicked) about going early and having nothing ready. So as of 35 weeks, it's all washed and dried and hung up. Please don't stress about ironing. You will not be ironing baby clothes. You'll be luck you can function enough to remember to brush your teeth and put a bra on, so no reason to stress about doing it now. If there is any inclination you could go early, I would get it done just so you know for sure it's all ready. Or you could wash it now, put it away and if you go quite late and you feel it's been sitting around gathering dust too long, you could wash again to freshen up. I'd get all the other bits and bobs ready soon though, like maternity pads and nappies and anything you need to have ready. I'm having a home birth but just in case (especially if I went early), I packed a hospital bag at 35 weeks as well. Sometimes it's just reassuring to know it's done and you don't have to think about it.

I would do it now, I waited till I was 36 weeks unpacked my bag to wash all he baby clothes and went into labour at 36+1 when all my beautiful baby clothes were drying on the clothes horse.

Had to go to hospital with bare minimum whilst Mum came round and got everything dried and repacked for me and brought up once baby was here.

Erm...once the baby had worn said clothes!! I’ve never in my life washed new clothes either for myself or the rest of the family. Ended up returning/swapping a fair few bits anyway that were the wrong size or just didn’t get worn.

Always wash clothes before wear.. And I. Never keep reciept or packaging I'm. Awful.. Lol

I went into labour at 35+5 so I would start soon! What's the harm in having it done early and then a few weeks to relax?

When I was in early labour at 37 weeks. Packed my bag then too. Need to try to be more organised this time.

I done baby clothes that I was putting in my hospital bag at 29weeks and everything else at 30weeks, I’m now 31 it was so much fun folding them up and putting them in certain draws and organising everything xx

This has been useful actually as I'm 36 weeks and haven't done my hospital bag yet. Think as I have a c section booked I'm sort of back of my head thinking I pack the night before but of course things are not always so predictable. That's my job for this week then!!

OP I'm sure you are far more sensible than me but one thing we didn't do with baby number one was work out how to do the car seat. We took it to the hospital with tags on and everything and were completely clueless. If you haven't already I would watch a YouTube video and have a go so you are not stressing when you should be excited about bringing baby home.

Once they had been worn...I didn't prewash any baby clothes, complete 1st world problem that is totally unnecessary.

Expecting dC2 in a few week...won't be washing any this time either.

If you want to start doing now then do it now.

There is no need to iron baby clothes.

And I have to iron baby clothes lmao.. As I iron literally everything. Except socks and bath towels. I even iron bedding, te towels underwear etc.
It only takes a few Minutes xx

And has cured my boredom for today as weather crap to go anywhere

Did it with my first around 35 weeks, second around 35 but didn’t do all of them as I had another little one to look after and everything else that comes with that. This time I can’t imagine finding the time! But we will see

When you have a new born you probably won’t be ironing.

Quick question - would you wash passed down baby clothes for a second baby? Assuming they'd been washed before being put into storage after first.

I'll always make time to iron. Lol.
With DS (now 12) I just did when he napped or if I was up for a feed at say 5am and pointless going back to bed I'd do it.
I know I'm crazy!

And yes without a doubt I'd wash it second hand even if was off family.. That's just me and I know it's unnecessary but I can't help it.. It would eat away at me. Xx

I've washed my baby number ones stuff that I bought down from the loft even though it was cleaned as there were a few stains etc and they didn't smell as fresh after being stored for a year or so!

38+4 and I'm not prewashing anything

I'm only 24 weeks. But this is third baby and I have two children to deal with and a part time job. I am being organised early. We have brought all the big stuff (big age gap and given all baby stuff away) and now onto the baby clothes buying.
I will be washing these at around the 30 week mark. Only waiting that long as want to put them on the washing line when it's milder..as I love seeing them out there!

Why leave it? Why not be prepared. Your baby could be here in a few weeks!
Besides the last few weeks are too exhausting to do much other than the basics. Do it whilst you still have the energy and inclination.

I’m only 21 weeks but I was given a lot of bits new and used and I’ve bought a lot of new stuff, it’s all orgnansied into ages and I will probably was after my last scan at 34 weeks...just so I’m all organised. I can’t help it, it’s how I’m programmed haha. I already have his nursery furniture and pram and all the other big things

You've got six loads worth of stuff to wash?! What do you have!? Genuinely asking, as I'd have about one load of clothes and one more of bedding, maximum...

I washed mine once they'd been worn. I think this is a maternity leave ritual I'm never really going to understand! I'd say you can do it whenever and if you are bored enough to want to wash again you can always do it.
Same 're hospital bag, do it whenever you fancy it. But it is perfectly possible to have an early birth without a perfectly prepared bag so dont stress if everything isnt perfect. I had my daughter at 34 weeks and genuinely had far too much else on my mind to stress about hospital bags or washing and ironing clothes.

Same for Sleepsuits 15 in each of the first two. Sizes.
6 towels
6 crib sheets
8 blankets for crib / pram
About 7 cardigans
10 full outfits in NB.
4 full outfits in 0-3
20 muslins
20 Bibs.
Loads of mits and hats
Lots of knitted booties and bonnets too.

Im. Not doing the 3-6 and the cot bedding yet that's in a storage box for now.

Thing is I haven't brought loads in the early sizes as pointless but both families are just buying and buying lol. I've been buying 3-6 onwards

I've also got literally everything else. Every big item, even have the crib and cot built.

Actually the only thing I have left to buy is a photo album for baby as the one I've wanted was out of stock.
