Hey girls just wondered what everyone's thoughts are on dying hair? I have been growing my hair out for ages so that I can go blonde. Is this safe to do? Xx

Yes its ok. Be aware the hair may react differently to the dye

I asked my obstetrician and she said that they were unsure about the safety of hair dye as it was difficult to say either way. Anecdotally, my friend is a hairdresser and she came into contact with dye throughout her pregnancy and dyed her hair every month and her child is absolutely fine.

Nhs says it's fine

Yes, just make sure you do a patch test at least 24 hours before, even if you've used the same product before, as both you and your hair can react differently to it when pregnant.

NHS says it's fine but completely agree with pugsley - get a patch test, even if you have used the same product previously.

Hey, I'm a hairdresser and have continued to colour my hair. As far as I understand it there is little evidence either way and all the hairdressers I know have continued to work throughout their pregnancies and had healthy babies. I would advice anyone pregnant or not to always have a skin test. I would also let your hairdresser know that you are pregnant as it can affect your hair. One of my clients is a natural red hair and has blonde highlights, her hair always grows through a deeper red when pregnant (this can mean we have to use different products and timings when doing her highlights.) But I always say it's a personal choice x
