Bath when pregnant?

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and love my baths! Is it an old wives tale or will I be ok if it’s not too hot? Probably a stupid question🙈

If I can't drink wine, I definitely need to get in the bath. I was a bit worried at first but really needed it so I've continued and I'm fine.

I took that as meaning the wine for a moment there First! Grin Stand down, judgy-pants un-hoiked.

I have two or three baths a week. My midwife said their is no concern as long as the water is not hot enough for you to feel like you are going to faint and shouldn't burn the skin - pretty much common sense.
I also asked about hot water bottles, she rolled her eyes and laughed - no harm what so ever. I've since used a hot water bottle all the way through pregnancy - on my back and sometimes belly too and I'm now 27 weeks.

Ha ha Elphaba! Don't worry, wine is out, baths and pizza are in Smile

I've been bathing almost daily, it's amazing to sink in when you're that special type of first tri exhausted.

I've never been one for scalding baths anyway, but I make sure that I'm never hot enough for my face to sweat, that I never go pink and that it's always cool enough that I can always hop straight in rather than go in bit by bit.

I've also been using the relaxation pool at the spa - I'm paying for a membership so I'm going to bloody use something! It's like a giant warm swimming pool with soft jets, heated to 30 degrees, so cooler than body temperature but still very comfortable. I checked with the manager and she said it's fine for pregnant ladies - and they've been incredibly cautious about everything else. They called head office and double checked I was allowed a facial the other day!

The risk is simply you're more likely to feel faint than usual. I was 12 weeks but didn't know I was pregnant when I went to a spa, and normally love saunas but couldn't stay in for more than five minutes. Thought I was getting flu! I spent most of the day in the outside jacuzzi - lovely and hot but with fresh air.

I did get faint quite a bit later in pregnancy so would have baths with the door unlocked and DH in the house. And near the end needed his help to get out!

It’s not, the risk is the core temperature and infection, but if your pregnancy is problem free, I wouldn’t worry about it. I am only avoiding them them because I’ve had a shaky start (I didn’t avoid them with my other pregnancies)

arrrrghhwinehelpswithteens · 14/01/2018 13:38

I was high risk for miscarriage (I’d already had 5) and still had baths throughout my pregnancy with DD. I just had them cooler than normal and made sure DH was in the house to help me out.

If you’re worried check with your midwife - they’ll be happy to reassure you.

Flowers and good luck x

As long as it’s not too hot you’ll be fine. I think there’s an increased risk of birth defect in the 1st 12 weeks if your core temperature rises to high. Enjoy Smile
