Any risks for going abroad whilst pregnant?

I know loads of people that have 😁 but I guess it depends where your going

KadabrasSpoon · 10/01/2018 20:01

Depends where, how many weeks you are and if your pregnancy has any risks or is normal.
Get adequate travel insurance

PasstheStarmix · 10/01/2018 20:02

I would enjoy a holiday while you can! Obviously make sure no vaccines required etc all the normal protocol depending on where you're going. I only wish me and dh had have gone on one as I think we could have afforded it but I was panicking and buying so much for our imminent arrival!

Agree with PP that it depends where youre going.Currently on holiday as we speak.

I'm only 10 +4 but questioned my midwife before we came. She warned about buffet food ie, making sure it's piping hot and avoiding seafood. Also drinking bottled water. Probably all the things I'd do anyway but have also had to stay away from steak Sad Sunshine has made me feel better though.
Also depends on how along. Some airlines ask for a letter from GP past 28 weeks.

Hope this helps!

Depends where you go and when you go.

I went on holiday when quite far pregnant (booked before I got pg). It was fine. I got specialist insurance (as I was far enough to potentially have a viable birth, it needed to cover birth, cover for the baby, equipment etc) and got a letter from my midwife (which I wrote abs she signed).
It was fine.

Check for Zika, be extra careful with food/drinks, check airline policy and get insurance.

mindutopia · 11/01/2018 10:59

It depends where you're going, when and how health you are generally. I flew long haul quite a bit in my first pregnancy, but not anywhere with any known health risks (it was to the U.S., this was pre-Zika). Just be mindful of infectious disease risks where you are doing, particularly zika, dengue and malaria as there are some places that have had bad outbreaks recently. And if you're flying long haul, book an aisle seat, stay well hydrated, wear compression socks and do lots of walking and stretching.

Have been to France, Belgium, Ireland and the Czech Republic this pregnancy, no issues. I had a fit to fly letter from my midwife for two of the trips as they were after 28 weeks. My normal multitrip travel insurance covered pregnancy-related issues up to 32 weeks, but I had to get special high risk insurance for the Ireland trip (to visit family at Christmas) because I was almost 33 weeks at that stage.

I'm 15 weeks and my baby already has a frequent flyer card. 😂 I fly a lot private and for work so there's no issue going abroad apart from what has been mentioned on here before.
So far my trips were all short haul but going to Mauritius (zika free) when I'm 22-24 weeks. I have checked with travel insurance this is ok and also with the airline. Plus I will be wearing flight socks (sexy!) and trying to walk up and down the aisle every couple of ours or so.
I had spoken to my midwife before we booked it and she said there's no issue with it. She'd actually just been to Mauritius and just said to enjoy it, it's fantastic.
More trips to Germany and Portugal are already planned. Make the most of it as long you don't have a little person with you 24/7!
