Low placenta

So I had a private scan at 9 weeks and 4 days. The lady who did my scan said she's 90% sure my placenta is at he bottom of my uterus but she said she's not 100% and that I should wait for my 12 week scan. Say if she's right and my placenta is low down is that dangerous for he baby and me?

Low lying placenta are not dangerous to you or baby. When I went to 20 week scan, they told and showed me that placenta is covering the cervix. All this means is that if it doesn't move, baby will be delivered by c section. There is nothing you can do to make it move but midwife says 9 times out of 10 it moves naturally as uterus expands. I'm currently 26 weeks and booked in for a scan at 36 weeks to check if it is still low lying. There's nothing i can do until then so I'm not worried about it. If it hasn't moved then i guess that will determine my birthing plan

Oh and the only other thing is that although perfectly ok to have sex, my midwife advised that sometimes low lying placentas can cause bleeding after this. So we made the choice to abstain through this pregnancy (much to my partner's joy😂😂)

Who did your scan? The messaging around having a low lying placenta in early pregnancy seems to be very strange. Lots and lots of women have a low placenta - it moves up as your uterus stretches. Even if it is still low at your 20 week scan it is more than likely to move. 9/10 low lying placentas move.

As it happens, I am 33 weeks and my placenta hasn't moved - but that's very rare and baby and I are both fine and planning a c-section at 39 weeks.

Shit, posted too soon. So if the placenta is on the inside of the mouth of a balloon, it would move up the side of the balloon when inflated, which helps to show why so many women with low lying placentas at the beginning of their pregnancies have no issues once they reach the end x

Ffs! No idea where my accidental first post has disappeared to! Hope that makes sense?!
