When did you book a private scan in early pregnancy?

I am driving myself insane and need to book a private scan, I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow. Ideally I want to hang on until at least next week so obviously it could be a few days out and I don't want to go and not see anything - i.e a heart beat. So I'm thinking if I can aim for between 7 and 8 weeks.

When did everyone else go for a reassurance scan? X

I didn't go for any scans until 12 weeks which the midwife booked.

Its entirely up to you when you have one privately but I don't know how much they would see and if they can't see a great deal it will probably make you worry more?

I think they prefer waiting and doing it at 12 weeks but that can be anywhere between 8-14 weeks due to ovulation.

I had a private one dead on 8 weeks. SO glad I did. Got a little photo, looked like a prawn. Saw the hearbeat fluttering away madly.

Cost £89 I think, money well spent, IMHO

@hollyindie I've just had a miscarriage previously so feeling very anxious. All I need to see is a heartbeat x

Wait until 7 weeks then as it is hit and miss that you'd see a heartbeat before then even if everything is ok.

I'm sorry to hear that I really hope everything is ok with you and baba!

If you are worried and have been through that then go put your mind at rest There is loads of places that will do early scans and like PP said you can get pictures.

Good luck hope everything goes well x

I had two chemical pregnancies two months in a row and got pregnant on the 3rd month too and had on and off spotting, the hospital were scanning me from 5 weeks because of rapidly rising hcg and spotting, but I had a private scan at 9 weeks too so I could get a picture because it’s hospital policy no pictures from EPAC

Definitely hang on til 8 weeks if you can, if they can’t find the hb because it’s too early you’ll worry yourself sick.

I had an early scan with dc 2 and dc3 for the same reason you did. I had a missed miscarriage after dc1 and couldn’t relax with my next pg until I had seen the heartbeat. Part of the magic of having a positive pregnancy test was also lost with the mmc and I don’t think you can fully understand that unless you have lost a pregnancy/baby. I think I went around 7-8 weeks and it was worth every penny -I’d have paid more just to have my mind put at rest so I could stop fretting about it.

8/9 weeks
Much less and you run the risk of causing more anxiety if the can't yet detect a heartbeat

bitzy12 · 09/01/2018 14:47

Thank you everyone, I'll book one in a weeks time for the following week - I'll be 8 weeks then.

It's just so hard, usually have hyperemesis with my pregnancies - I have 2 dc already - and don't even have any nausea yet. Just feel the same as I did with my miscarriage at the min though my boobs do feel heavy today and I did a clear blue digital last night and got 3+ so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

Thank you :-) x

I booked at 8+4 x

I had a scan at 6+6 due to potential ectopic pregnancy. Abdominally they could only see the sac. Transvaginally they got a heartbeat but I know most private scan centres don't do transvaginal scans. I'd definitely wait until 8 weeks, or longer if you have fat on your abdomen (as it can be harder to see early on).
