Bleeding and a normal scan

Hi everyone I'm so worried and just really need to hopefully hear some positive thoughts...I had a bleed on Friday just one gush of blood then it stopped it was very scary and I was obviously very upset, I took a trip to A and E and they checked my cervix and it was closed thank god! They couldn't book me in for a scan until today Monday so me and my husband decided to go for a private scan and the baby was perfect, loads of movement and no sign of where the bleed came from. So I'm still terrified for the scan today I'm so worried in case something has went wrong over the weekend. Am I being silly worrying about the scan today after a good scan on Friday? This is such a stressful time 😢

Hey there,
I had two emergency scans during my pregnancy due to bleeding and everything was fine and my baby is currently crying at me due to wind! So as long as the scans are OK the baby is fine. Bleeds can happen for numerous reasons. Hopefully you don't get any more bleeding :-) try and take it easy and rest for a bit if you can :-)

Did they take blood and check your hcg levels? If you'd miscarried the hcg levels would have dropped very low at the point of bleeding. If the are high at the point of bleeding, you were still pregnant when you bled so great sign.

Aww thank you im just worried we went for the scan to early after the bleed I'm so nervous for today! I should be reassured the fact the scan was good on Friday and there has been no more bleeding but the worry is still there.
So pleased everything was ok for you it's always good to hear happy endings Smile

I had this in my second pregnancy, the lovely sonographer told me it is actually more common than you imagine. Apparently as long as the bleed is not at the site of the placenta and it stops then it's just 'one of those things'.

If it helps ds is now a robust 7 year old and the rest of my pregnancy was fairly straightforward.

Good luck.

Yes they took my hormone levels but they weren't going to be back for a few hours so just got told to go home and wait for the scan on Monday, the scan was good and the baby was fine but I'm still worried

I had a bleed at 10 weeks. It's very common.

I bled at 7 weeks and had an emergency scan where we could see the heartbeat, I then had a horrendous bleed at 10 weeks where I had to be admitted for blood loss as it was that bad and they couldn’t scan me until the following morning. As i’d passed clots I thought the worse but the scan showed a flipping, kicking baby. The bleeding was down to a haematoma and lasted until 17 weeks and my perfectly healthy 3 year old is currently scrapping with his brother 🙄

I had bad bleeds at 9 and 11 weeks. Babies were fine both times. Currently 19 weeks and can feel them wriggling every day.

I would really try not to worry. Bleeding is very common in first tri and you've had a normal scan and all is very likely well. I've had bleeding in all my pregnancies. In fact, I bled the least in the one that ended in miscarriage! I had hardly any bleeding that time, just a few wipes and that was it (it was a missed mc, I needed a d&c after waiting 6 weeks for it to happen naturally). In my two healthy pregnancies, I've had heavy bleeding. With my first, it was very like what you describe. One gush of gush (literally rushing down my legs) and then light bleeding for about 20 minutes after and then spotting for a few days. I have cervical erosion, I now know, and the midwives suspect that it was caused by a blood vessel on my cervix bursting. Scary at the time, but totally unrelated to baby. She was kicking away just fine on my scan. This was at 10 weeks.

In this pregnancy (got pregnant again right after previous mc), I had bleeding from about 7-9 weeks. Some of it was just spotting or light bleeding. But I had about 3 days of heavy, like soaking through clothes bleeding. Again, it was all from my cervix. Baby is fine. I'm 35 weeks now and have had an otherwise easy pregnancy. Just be forewarned that if it is cervical (which it likely is), if you have a scan, especially a vaginal scan, it can make the bleeding heavier. That's no reason not to have it. But just so you know and aren't alarmed. The heaviest bleeding I had this pregnancy was in the days after the scan as the probe just irritates everything. It has nothing to do with baby though so no harm in having one done and it was reassuring to know all was fine.

I've had numerous heavy bleeds early on in my last pregnancy, so bad I had to be admitted to hospital a couple of times. It finally settled around maybe 16 weeks. They never found out what caused it. My little boy was born at term, fit and healthy. I know how you feel bit if your scan was ok try not to worry too much Flowers

Thank you so much everyone I just feel everything is one big worry I had a bleed at 10 weeks and everything was fine and my hormone levels were 85,000 but I've just called the hospital to see what they were on Friday and they were 45,000 and that was at week 14+1 is it normal for them to decrease?

I found this:

Q: What patterns do HCG levels maintain during pregnancy?

A: Although most hormones increase at the beginning of pregnancy and continue to rise throughout the 40-week journey, HCG is different. From the time your baby is conceived until 10 weeks of gestation, your HCG levels rise rapidly, doubling every two to three days, but then the levels begin to fall. "This means that at the beginning, your number might be two. It'll then move to four, eight, and 16, and then it really picks up speed, moving into the 25,000 to 50,000 range," says Dr. Ross. "When it gets to 100,000, it turns around and goes down again. For the rest of your pregnancy, your HCG level will likely remain at 10,000."
