You've done amazing to get all that for £550! Well done :)

Only because I was told I couldn't have children and now it's happened, baby is my first and probably only one, I have gone full out with furniture that will last him for years.

I haven't gone crazy with stuff I don't need and We have had little bits given to us from partners sister who's baby is 6 months old so perfect for little hand me downs

We've got the cot, mattress, moses basket and stand, clothes (having another girl so didn't need any), bottles and some nappies/wipes so far.

We didn't keep any of the big items so having to buy them all again and so far we've spent more than we did with our first because with our first everything was bought for us, but still not that much (haven't kept track) because we bought things with codes or during sales. Ikea recently had a sale and we had an extra 10% so had a cot for £45 and mattress for £18 instead of £60 and £25.

Don't go crazy on clothes. I would just focus on the basics, vests and babygros for the first few months. Also, I would strongly recommend going to a sling meet after baby is born and trying out some wraps and carriers first to see what fits you and baby before you buy. You can hire them by the month if you find one you like. I wouldn't necessarily just by one to start because the fit can be very individual. If you do want to get one, I would start with a moby wrap or close caboo (they are cheaper, rather than a more structured carrier, which is more expensive and less likely to be comfortable in the early days). Whatever you do, don't get a baby bjorn. They aren't especially safe or recommended and you likely won't find it comfortable as they don't offer proper back support for you (or hip support for baby).

I would say also think about sheets (fitted sheets for cot), blankets and then like toiletries, wipes, nappy cream, nail clippers, etc. Also, get a big pack of muslins. You will use them for everything.

Only things I bought new were the carseat and mattresses. I think all in I spent £1200 but that included absolutely everything including my maternity stuff and pads, bras etc. We also bought 2 carseats (one was £300!).

We haven't set a budget.. We've done buy what we like.. Whether that's primark or designer. Purley because we ttc for so long and it's our first together so we love buying stuff..
A ball park figure spent is prob £1700 but that's without the furniture as we were renewing it anyway.. I. E full sized wardrobe, drawers etc
I have got some second hand that I've picked up at great prices too.

Basically nothing! 😂 Plan to keep an eye on selling sites, pick up bits as we go and spread the cost as much as possible so it’s not all coming out in one go. Don’t plan to go crazy on spending, we have a tiny tiny house so the less stuff this bubba accumulates, the better! Do plan to use cloth nappies so that will eventually be one big expense but want to try a few different styles once baby is a few weeks old and see what we like before I commit to spending. Our biggest expense will be a good off-road buggy (plan to us a sling/carrier as much as possible but living quite rurally it will be helpful to have a good, sturdy buggy - massive benefit if I can use it for running later on and save buying a separate jogging buggy) and a decent car seat.

upshltcreek · 08/01/2018 14:05

Didn't really set a budget as such, just chose what we wanted as we went along, I think if you set strict budgets then you end up not getting what you really want (obviously only if you can afford it!). If there is one thing that I would max out the budget for is the pram as there's nothing worse than being stuck with a pram that you hate every day! Even a second hand bugaboo is probably better than what you could get brand new in that second hand price range.

CappuccinoCake · 08/01/2018 14:10

We only spent a few hundred.

Baby wraps about 100 in total
Buggy 150 in total (one second hand, one new basic fold one)
Clothes - first few months just babygrows- 50 quid max? After that nct sale was truly amazing .

Most things people spend lots on you don't need and realise a few months in. SOOOOO many nct friends brought big travel systems that they then sold on 6 months in!
