Telling work

I am absolutely dreading telling my work I am pregnant!!

It's DC2. I started my job not knowing I was pregnant with DD1. And by the time I did find out I was 15 weeks and in my second week of new job! It was awkward and I didn't get the best reaction from my headteacher (I'm a teacher).

I've been back from maternity leave for 18months and am now 11+3 with DC2. I need to tell them as I'm starting to show already!! Not sure my baggy cardigans are going to hide it much longer! I'm just dreading telling them again!!!! The only positive is that I am due in the summer holidays so hoping to make it to the end of the year before I go off again.

Any tips?? Do I just need to put my big girl pants on and do it?? Argh!! X

I'd leave it as long as legally possible. When I told my employer I was pregnant I was sacked on the spot.

Bella that’s illegal.

I can sympathise as I’m also a teacher and dreading it, are you part of a union? I would advise telling them and seeking advice if you receive any negative treatment

I'm not worried about being treated differently or victimised etc. Just know that she won't be happy and will make a sarcastic comment or something. Silly really!

We're an all female staff and have at least one pregnancy a year if not more!!!!

Bella-I'm really sorry that happened to you. That's awful! X

I’m the only female teacher and it’s my second maternity in a year🙈 so I will no doubt get sarky comments. Bugger them though, you have a beautiful baby on the way and they have a good few months to work out your maternity cover. Hope the head takes it ok.

I have this - we're about to restructure so whilst technically they shouldn't be amending the structure to move me "sideways" and I won't be here for a year, the timing is not ideal.

I can wear a fleece at work and am doing so - so far it's hiding 13 weeks of bump. I have to say something by Easter Sunday (15 weeks before confinement) so I'm trying to hold out to the end of Jan when plans should be in place.

Just do it.
It's a fact of life and they'll just have to suck it up!

I felt guilty telling my work. I'm a nanny, so I've got poor families having to struggle with their own household finances, plus pay my maternity pay and make other childcare arrangements. (Although I believe smp is claimable back from the government).
But, at the end of the day it's a responsibility that comes with being an employer. Tough.
It's not wrong to consider your own personal family life before work life xxx

Thank you everyone. You're all right. I will go for it and just take the comments and smile! X
