CAN YOU ANSWER QUICK -- WILL THEY GIVE MY SIS A SWEEP AT 40+2??

especially as she wants a homebirth and the consultant wants to book her in for induction on may 4th.

shes had her show.

we're leaving for midwives soon andwanted to gauge the chances of them saying yes

The midwife did with me but it was more of a "shall we give it a go?" "may as well" kind of decision. DS2 still had to be induced though sorry ! Same lady had done it with DS1 at 40 + 4 at that worked so you may be lucky!

I had a sweep at 40+5 did nothing wouldn't have one again ever.

I wanted a homebirth too and was booked in for an induction as well so I know how frustrated she will be. Chances are she will go before she has the induction anyway especially if she's had a show. (I went at 41+5 btw)

yes, you can ! largeginandtonic gave nataliejane instructions on how to do it , when she was having her 6 week am i / aren;t i in labour ! it is a good idea to get to know your own cervix!!

Hi

We went and the midwife refused to do it

she says she has to be 40+7 - its the 'rules' (yet at the exact same clinic I had a sweep at 38+5 ) and said she will arrange for a midwife to come on Sunday to her home and give her a sweep.

Anyways shes still having tightenings and aches but no labour

I woke up at about 3am last night with stomach pains ( ) and i convinced myself i was having sympathy pains and i was goingto get a call - so i couldnt get back to sleep!!! i was wrong tho, lol

The midwife rang her after the appointment and said she had arranged for a midwife to come on Friday to check her over again as the baby is big (!! all the midwves keep saying this!! ) and her feet are quite swollen!

Will let you know if anything happens

if she's had a show and lots of pains, then that is positive, need to focus on that

TBH, if she had a sweep now and did not go into labour then she would be more disheartened, waiting until 41 weeks is actually not a bad idea.....

baby will be coming soon......

Do it yourself?? This is surely an impossible feat? I tried with DD1 the day before my due date and could not reach my cervix so assumed I was really unfavorable. The next day my nice midwife did a sweep, said it was really favorable and it put me in to labour that evening. I have a friend though who had 4 sweeps starting before her due date and she went on to be induced, so sometimes it works but I think only if you are ready anyway. Oh yes and the evening I had my sweep I also had sex and afterwards laid down with my bum on a pillow so that the prostaglandins could do their stuff, maybe it was that that did the trick!

I'm not sure how it's carried out, but it's a method of stimulating the cervix to bring on contractions I think. Usually given to women once they've gone over 40 weeks to help things along a bit and possibly avoid an induction.

the midwives coming tomorrow and may do a sweep then but who knows!

i think she will be induced if she gets to 42 weeks, only because my mum refused induction on her last baby (born 43 weeks) and she nearly died - the babys placenta was black

yes shes fine, a 13 year old pain in the bum though!!

i think its all relative to each individual really but after that happening i wouldnt like to chance it y'know?

i was induced with my first and it was fine but im really do hope she doesnt have to!

everytime the phone rings my heart jumps in my mouth - then i get so annoyed at who ever is ringing as theyre NOT my labouring sister!! lol
