Maternity bra advice

Having forever been a scant 34/36 A/B I suddenly find myself at 11 weeks' pregnant, with only two bras that vaguely fit, and spilling out of both of them. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to get fitted, and any particular brands or shops which are good for value for money and comfortable maternity bras?

I went to M&S and they were great with the fitting and I got some bras from there, granted they were more than I would have wanted to pay but they were so worth it and I’ve lived in them and they are so comfortable! I did get a couple from mothercare in the Xmas sale but they haven’t been as comfortable but they were good value for money but I wouldn’t necessarily buy them full price. Hope this helps and congratulations!!

M&S maternity bras are sooooo comfy. I lived in mine, and the switched to their nursing bras when I gave birth.

I was thinking about this as I think I'll need new bras vert soon. Does it not make more sense to just buy nursing bras? Rather then waste money on bras just for maternity?

I'm not sure what a maternity bra is? Surely you just need a normal bra that fits with the wires definitely sitting on your chest wall and not on breast tissue?

I didn’t buy a specific ‘maternity bra’ I just got M&S to fit me with a soft bra so there was no underwire which hurt me. Mothercare I got ‘nursing bras’ which unclip on the strap, as I said previously, not the most comfortable as they do have underwire and I have been out and about and the strap has unclipped but it’s easy to put back on discreetly! Hope this helps for those asking the difference

I recently went to mothercare who measured me. Managed to pick up 2 extremely comfy maternity bras for £9 down from £30 in the sales! So if you can definitely check out places now to get good deals.

I went and got re-measured at Bravissimo. I’ll need to get nursing bras in due course as my size will change again, but none of my old bras fitted and were really uncomfortable. I’ve stuck with underwires this time - went for non wired in my first pregnancy and felt horribly frumpy.

I didn't ever bother with them. I just wore normal bras (with underwire) the whole time, I just got a bigger size. After the birth I did the same as I wasn't breast feeding at all.

Debenhams were really good- a maternity bra was £20 and they have lasted me since October. They have four hooks on the back so give you a bit extra. The woman who fitted me was really helpful and said not to get nursing bras until week 36ish!!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 07/01/2018 13:43

I just got a couple of nice wire free bras from Figleaves which are really comfy for about £7.50 in the sale. Bargain! M&S seem to have gotten much better at fitting recently (no longer using the +4 method, thank goodness) so you may find they are a good place to try if you need fitting. If you are still in the smaller cup size range, you could probably get away with some of their Angel range (for teens) which I bloody loved when I could get away with squeezing myself into them. They go moulded wire free styles just like maternity bras but a fair bit cheaper.

Thanks everyone :) Think I'll be popping into M&S or Debenhams on Saturday! And good tip about the Angel range @Didntcomeheretofuckspiders, thank you

For the ladies unsure on what a maternity bras is.
Basically you want to have a good fitting bra that is soft and comfortable with no underwire.
I have always gone to m&s to get fitted for mine.
A nursing bra is for when baby has arrived and the cups un clip at the front for easy feeding.
Hope this helps.
