Might be a daft question but is trampolining a bad idea?!

I have just bought a trampoline for my DS5 birthday and he's mad over it and always asks me to get on. I am 23 weeks and do get on but mostly just sit cross legged so that he can bounce me. However, I have had a little bounce, in the traditional way, but only for a very short time. Am I correct to think I'm round the twist and should not to it at all? I read somewhere on a thread about it affecting the placenta. Any clues? (I know I'm old enough to know better but sometimes I just need telling.) Thanks in advance.

We brought DS's a trampoline for Easter and I asked my doctor weather I could go on it, she said no way not even to bring on labour as it's been know to cause "Placental abruption", I had to phone my MW this morning as I've changed Doctors and I quickly asked her about the trampoline thing (couldn't hurt getting a 2nd opinion and all that) and she said the same thing as my doctor, Something to do with the impacted it has though the core of your body, This is all I know, DH made me check it out with my Doctor when we first brought it as I was dieing for a go on it, so glad I did!

dunno how relevant / related but I went on bouncy castle with dd on sat (am 14 wks pg). I just sat on the end and supported her, bounced her about (dd is not mobile). Loads of other kids on it so was v bumpy. I had a bleed on monday. Have been scanned and all is well.. but after reading BMWB reply wish I hadn't bothered going on it.

DD is going to a bouncy castle party next Saturday & I wouldn't have really thought about the dangers tbh, I certainly wouldn't have jumped about mad but didn't realise a wee bounce even sitting on the edge could cause any probs, glad this thread came up.

went on my nephews trampoline on my due date, contractions started 4 hours later...

I would do it again, but wouldnt do it at 23 weeks TBH

Nope, not a good idea, same as horse riding, too much bumpiness can cause the placenta to rip. So no more bouncing for you a the moment.

fakebook · 28/07/2013 08:30

No no no no! Our trampoline came with a warning that it must not be used by pregnant women. Not only is it dangerous and could bring on labour in the later stages but your ligaments and muscles are softened during pregnancy and you could injure yourself very badly or even fall on your stomach. Glad you've banished yourself from it.

Havig read this thread I just wanted to add my personal opinion in responce to the information provided by other posters. I haven't had any advice from my medical professions about it but it just doesn't seem like a wise activity to be takig part in. Especially having read a previous posters doctors advice about it possibly causig placental abruption. This happened to me with my dc1 and has caused her a permenant life time disability. For this reason, I would suggest not doing it to bring on labour either.

I go on my kids. It's exercise and fun. Providing I am sensible i.e no flips etc ;) I think it's okay. I've had 3 previous healthy PGs inc twins and the trampoline to me no harm. Now I'm having a complicates PG I just sit on it and let the kids bounce around me. It always makes the babies kick more too haha.

MultipleMama · 28/07/2013 11:02

My consultant/MW told me to be careful. However once I was +20 weeks I stopped as that's when my Dr/MW were all no no.

MultipleMama · 28/07/2013 11:04

Although if I had read all above before; I wouldn't have. Think I may stay away from ours now!

There is no evidence that trampoline jumping during pregnancy presents any risks to the mother or baby. In fact, trampoline jumping may even provide some benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health and increased strength and flexibility. However, it is always important to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise routine during pregnancy.
