Flu shot in early pregnancy

Hi everyone I've recently just found out im 7 weeks pregnant. I'm basically just wondering if anyone else has had their flu shot in early pregnancy and everything was ok afterwards. I'm just afraid to get the flu shot this early as I've read thst it can cause problems in early pregnancy.

Thanks in advance for any advice x

Where have you read this? What does your midwife say?

thingymaboob · 06/01/2018 13:36

You can get it at any point. It's not active. Where have you read this?

unicorncow · 06/01/2018 13:37

@BTMC I had my flu jab before I even found out I was pregnant

I had mine at 6 weeks. Where have you read that it can cause problems?

BTMC · 06/01/2018 13:44

Hi thanks for the reply.

I googled it which I know I shouldn't do and it came up on diff sites saying that it can cause problems, but on other sites saying that it's completely safe in 1st trimester. I'm booked into get it next week when I'll be 8 weeks. I had the flu injection with my previous 2 babies and all was fine but I was in the second trimester then.

Im sure it is completely fine I'm just looking reassured lol

I had mine early and it was safe. Miscarriage is a very common thing and people try to make sense of it by blaming XYZ... when in reality it’s just nothing

I got one at 18-22 weeks which was recommended :)

RubyBoots7 · 06/01/2018 17:39

There's no pregnancy time criteria when it comes to the flu jab.
Flu when pregnant is awful, trust me, and you can't really take anything much.

Almostthere15 · 06/01/2018 18:10

The nhs says you can have it from the first weeks and recommends as soon as possible. I'm always minded to go with the nhs advice. It's pretty risk adverse in any case

Doublechocolatetiffin · 06/01/2018 18:17

I had mine at 6/7 weeks. All is fine.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 06/01/2018 18:28

I had it at 9 weeks. Everything seems fine (am 17 now). My husband is doing a fairly good impression of someone with the flu (coughing to the point of vomiting, temperature, aches, no appetite, stomach pain etc). Me, ds and his parents were all vaccinated and haven't caught it off him. I can not imagine having that on top of how I already feel due to pregnancy.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance I'm getting mine next week. No one knows except for my partner that im pregnant so cant ask friends or family at the min for advice.

The NHS recommends the flu shot at any point in pregnancy. By NICE guidelines, those recommendations HAVE to be evidence based. They wouldn't be recommending anything that there is convincing evidence to show isn't safe. The earliest I've ever had mine was 20 weeks, but only because that was the earliest it became available in my pregnancies (in October). I absolutely would have had it at the same time regardless of where I was. Flu is awful and a serious risk in pregnancy.

I had my flu jab a few days ago and I'm 10 weeks pregnant. It was fine.

you certainly don't want the aussie flu that is going round.
