Hi there...

This is my first pregnancy and I'm about 7 and a half weeks. It took us a good 2 years to get to this stage as we had some fertility issues with me being diagnosed with pcos.

We got referred to our local fertility unit a year ago and I was given letrizole to induce ovulation. This didn't work at first so they upped my dosage and low and behold, I've ovulated the past five months.

Despite trying for 2 years, it was a complete shock to get a positive pregnancy test as I'd convinced myself we would need to go down the ivf route. Absolutely over the moon and sooo excited but also very nervous as I know pcos increases your chances of miscarriage.

Mentioned this worry to both the fertility clinic and my gp but neither seemed overly concerned and they both said it would just be treated as a normal pregnancy. My gp did an over the phone consultation and said she'd refer me to the midwives.

Got my letter in from the midwives yesterday and I've got my booking in appointment when I'll be 10 weeks but my first scan isn't until week 14. Am I unreasonable to think this is a bit late. Should I make a bit of a fuss at my booking in app and see if they can bring it forward a bit or is 14 weeks perfectly normal. Feel a bit guilty as I know the NHS is stretched more than ever these days but I'm a worrier by nature and can't help myself.

Sorry for the big rambling post ladies, just had to get it off my chest.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm not an expert but between 11 and 14 weeks is usually normal for your dating scan. However, if you want to have the Michael tests you have to have them done before 13+6. It may be worth contacting and asking for an earlier date?

It’s awful waiting, I totally understand.

Some people choose to go for an early private scan. I did yesterday, sadly it was not good news for me but I am glad I did it, as otherwise I would have had to wait for several more weeks for the same news. (Just for context though I’m 42 so was very high risk of miscarriage so it’s not that surprising)

Whatever you decide I wish you all the very best and congratulations x

I didn't mean Michael tests, I meant nuchal (my phone changed it!)

@Jen41 I'm really sorry it was not good news for you. Hope you're ok. Thanks

Congratulations on your bfp! 14 weeks seems a bit late as a pp said if you want the screening then the cut off is before then. Try phoning the ultrasound department directly to get an earlier appointment. Otherwise you can get a private early scan fairly cheapish now (I think around my area its £60 ish)

Nuchal screening is normally before 14 weeks. My hospital sent me an appointment for 14 weeks and it turned out to be a mistake - they said 13+6 is the cut-off date and if I'd attended the appointment it would have been too late to do the screening. So they moved the appointment a week earlier. I'd give them a ring to check that your scan appointment is within the dates when they can do the screening.

Thanks ladies, I'll give them a ring on Monday and see if they'll bring the scan forward a bit. Really good point about the testing before 14 weeks.

And if they really won't shift on the 14 week scan I might consider getting an earlier private scan for peace of mind. Had a wee look online and there seems to be a few clinics near by that do it for quite a reasonable price.

Just a wee bit she'll shocked and naive that despite having fertility treatment and pcos, once falling pregnant, you just get plonked into the queue with no aftercare to speak off. Can't complain too much though as without the fertility clinic I wouldn't be here in the first place and I know how incredibly lucky I am. Smile
