Reduced movements.

At what week in pregnancy would the hospital consider checking you for reduced movements?

I'm 22+3 and I only started feeling movement for a week, but today I haven't felt him much at all? He's normally quite active in the morning, but I haven't felt him since 4am. I've just had a 30 min lay down on my left side, which hasn't done anything. Should I be concerned or am I over reacting being quite early into feeling movements? I feel like I'm over reacting! X

The general info is that you don't need to monitor movement until around 28 weeks, so I wouldn't worry. Obviously check with your midwife if you are concerned, but baby still has so much room to move that he more than likely is just in a position that you can't feel right now.

ClareB83 · 05/01/2018 14:10

My notes say 28 weeks too.

UnitedKungdom · 05/01/2018 14:11

You don't follow movements till after 28 weeks.

Firstchild7 · 05/01/2018 14:11

I thought it was 24 weeks but might be worth ringing

DontbouncelikeIdid · 05/01/2018 14:12

It is understandable to worry, but at that stage the baby moving position could mean you don't feel movements. It's easy for them to hide for a bit. When they get bigger you would expect to feel movement whichever position they are in, so no movement would be more of a concern,

LittleFox01 · 05/01/2018 14:12

Thank you for your quick replies! I thought that would be the case :) just worrying over every little thing 🙈. Thank you though, it's made me feel better! X

I think when they are that small they can be pretty mobile still as there's enough space (for now!). So the baby may have spun round and be kicking in a different direction that you cant actually feel.

I remember feeling concerned about the same but it being nothing. Later on when a pattern 9f movements is established it would definitely be something to get checked out - I don't think so at this point in your pregnancy it's necessary though (I'm not a mIdwife though so do ring yours if you are really concerned!).

CuriousVole · 05/01/2018 14:14

I’m around the same timing as you and movements are not regular at the moment. Some days I feel nothing until I go to bed and some days I get little feelings through the day.

Have they said you have an anterior placenta? Either way, Your baby is quite small still and has plenty of room to move about. At my 20 week scan I was told you may only start feeling the really big movements over the next few weeks.

BrokenBattleDroid · 05/01/2018 14:14

HUGE cross post as I'm a slow typer!

Jeds55 · 05/01/2018 14:16

I actually phoned the maternity triage about this yesterday and was told it was 28 weeks but they let me go in for monitoring (was 27+4) as a sort of pattern had emerged over last week or so. Everything was fine thankfully but was there 4 hours! You can always check with your midwife and see what they advise- know how worrying it is

LittleFox01 · 05/01/2018 14:22

Yes I do have an anterior placenta, so it's probably half that aswell. It just worried because I was feeling him around the same sort of time every day and his kicks getting stronger to today having nothing. But I do understand that he has a lot more growing space so not always going to feel him. I've just never been sure on what stage in pregnancy it becomes more of a worry. After losing a baby before at 17 weeks, I just worry about every little thing and this being the furthest I've got in any of my pregnancies, I'm just in panic mode over every little thing! Thanks for the reassurance from you all though xx

Sorry for your previous loss, it does make things more worrying. Could you make an appointment with you midwife anyway and she can have a listen to the heartbeat give you some reassurance?

LittleFox01 · 05/01/2018 14:34

I heard his heartbeat on Wednesday and the midwife won't be back at my surgery until Wednesday, but I think i will call for reassurance later if I still haven't felt him. I think he was just partying too much at 4am this morning so resting more today, and I've been out and about a lot more today so it might just be that I haven't noticed any movement. Thank you x

I know it depends on area, but where I am and because I have had a previous very late loss, if I were worried about this the midwives would be happy for me to call the number on my notes and at least talk it through with me and probably have a listen if I was still feeling worried.

Please do get any help and support you can access - it is very worrying this pregnancy lark!

Firstchild7 · 05/01/2018 14:39

Try drinking something cold, made mine move when was too early as was worried she was not moving. He might have just turned round have his back to ur belly

SueSueDonahue · 05/01/2018 15:27

Phone them!

It makes me so angry that people are told 28 weeks when so many stillbirths happen around viability at 24 weeks that could be preventable.

It is almost certainly okay, but please do check it out.

X

LittleFox01 · 05/01/2018 15:46

Thank you @SueSueDonahue. I have started feeling kicks now, so I think everything is okay and they are as strong as they normally would be. If it happens again an I worry then I will call and get advice. X

CuriousVole · 05/01/2018 15:55

My midwife is wednesdays too, I have called triage before and they are good even if you have to wait when you go in. It is worth it.

Glad you are getting some kicks now anyway!

UnitedKungdom · 05/01/2018 20:46

Sue firstly the OP is not at 24 weeks. Secondly, if people called when they had reduced movement before 28 weeks then every pregnant woman would be in there every second day because 'reduced movements' are par for the course until baby reaches a certain size/gestation.

So they're not saying 28 weeks for the fun of it. And the OP would be expected to not feel movement at this point.
