Can I wear a normal vest top in a water birth?

Or do you have to wear a tankini/bikini top?

Thanks in advance!

Wear what whatever you like. I personally wore a vest top as didn't want to be naked.

WHAtever you like is fine. I ended up in a Gap sundress and DH’s bathrobe Grin.

Ah brilliant! Been sitting here trying to find a maternity tankini online and just had a brainwave that I could just wear a normal top and save the £££s.

Thanks very much for your quick replies.

Wear whatever you like. I wore a superman crop top and no knickers Blush (I wasn't really with it, gas and air made me high a kite)

You can wear anything you like. You honestly won't care.

I had planned on wearing a top but when the time came I could not be dealing with the faff so went in starkers.

mindutopia · 05/01/2018 13:41

You can wear whatever you want, but honestly, you might be more comfortable in a sports bra rather than some drippy wet vest as you'll likely be asked to stand up or get out and move around a few times and a bra is less likely to be annoying and just drip water all over the place.

My boobs were so big by the time I gave birth no bikini known to man would have contained them...therefore I wore a h&m vest.

GrinGrin haha, I feel silly now thinking I would be all prepared with new maternity swimsuit attire! Clearly first time mum here Blush

I didn’t plan on a water birth, but walked right in, stepped into the bath in my dress while she was still running it, gave birth 15 minutes later in my nursing bra.

So set yourself up however you feel comfortable, but when it’s actually going on you won’t give it a second thought.

SatsukiKusakabe · 05/01/2018 13:46

It’s all part of it - I look back with fondness at some of the things I worried over before my first - it’s a more innocent time, but a rite of passage for everyone and how you try prepare yourself for something you can’t really prepare for Smile

Congratulations and good luck Flowers

yes i wore a longer vest top when in the pool with both of my water births! by the end i wasnt wearing anything tho 🤣 as long as your comfy.

Luxembourgmama · 05/01/2018 13:48

You can wear whatever you like. I was naked but a vest top might get a bit soggy and uncomfortable? Would you sit in the bath with one? Thats kind of what its like.

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 05/01/2018 13:50

All clothes made my skin crawl in labour. I'm not bodily confident but stripped as soon as I could.

AuntieStella · 05/01/2018 13:53

Yes, wear what you like. I wore a maternity Tshirt, but think with hindsight that for a waterbirth one if DH's huge tech-fabric sports shirts might have been a better bet (would survive and recover from waterlogging better)

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 05/01/2018 13:59

I was naked, but at home.

LastOneDancing · 05/01/2018 14:12

Yep. I wore a stretchy vest and it worked well.
Im sure youve consideed this but take a spare incase you have to come out of the water to be monitored (they will also drag you out at random intervals to go for a wee IIRC!)

TiffTaffTop · 05/01/2018 15:11

I wore a bikini top and a long black vest top. Felt comfy and not too exposed.

bettydraper31 · 05/01/2018 15:34

Don’t feel silly! I’m planning on wearing my comfy crop top type stretchy bra and nothing else! You’ll be so hot and bothered you won’t want loads of fabric sticking to your skin once it gets wet in the water. First time around I wore a vest from m&s, they’re stretchy and actually part of their lingerie/nightwear range I believe. Normally 2 for £10, might be worth a look. I’ve worn them all throughout both pregnancies as they’re so stretchy and comfy and have nice lacy straps and v neck x
