Any teachers struggling?

Evening. Just wondering if there were any other teachers out there finding it difficult. I'm a primary school teacher and 25 weeks +2. Had a lovely xmas break but back today. People keep saying take it easy but it's hard on feet all day. And then tonight i've just finished marking and planning. Just wondering if anyone in similar position and has any tips.

I teach in a special school in Nz and I have made lots of cut backs on what I do. Currently 25 weeks and finishing at 33 weeks as very risky to work longer with potentially violent kids on the advice of my midwife. I do have 2 teacher aids at all times and have stopped doing outside duty from about 12 weeks. Lessons have been more relaxed but our general environment is more relaxed than when I was in mainstream anyway. I spoke to our assistant head really early on and told her I was no longer willing to be involved in physical handling and would be doing as much as a could without making myself exhausted! She agreed that this was good and that keeping me was the most important thing for consistency. Talk to your line manager about how you can adapt your normal work load so you can work for as long as you want to. Good luck!

Really interesting to see how many people have told their class. My headteacher says I'm not allowed to tell anyone (other staff included) until he has my MatB1 form at 21 weeks. I'm 18 weeks now and am huge as it's my 3rd. Really struggling as baggy tops aren't baggy enough...
@Rae2017 I also teach year 2. Dreading sats! Unfortunately my due date is a week after they finish so I'm expected to stay till 39 weeks and have all my final levels submitted. Terrified! Particularly as DS1 was 10 days early and DS2 was 6 days early... don't know if he's asking the impossible. I wasn't a teacher with my other DC. I guess I'll just have to see how I go x

Wow@Bubble04 I'm sure that can't be legal... Surely they can't make you stay until 39 weeks whether SATs or not. HT has had notice in place to set up provisions... I know a year 2 teacher going on mat leave just before SATs. You can go on maternity leave when you choose as long as it's not too early and abides by the burgundy book.
..Also I'm shocked you're not "allowed" to tell staff until matb1! What if they're your personal friends etc.. I'm a year 2 teacher and have had 2 DC but not as a teacher so this is an eye opener and I've never heard of that in teaching before either... If you're not happy with the arrangements id question it....

@Hulaballoo I did speak to my union and they said it's ridiculous too, I'm just quite conscious I need him on side as I'll need a good reference. Doubt I'll be able to go back there after mat leave as I want part time and the last teacher who requested that was turned down and had to find a new job...

Hulaballoo · 05/01/2018 11:28

@Bubble04 that's a rock and hard place😕 sucks. I hope he's able to be a bit more reasonable....

Rae2017 · 05/01/2018 12:40

@bubble that's really difficult. Yeah I agree, it's up to you when you start mat leave. I understand if you want good reference but HT shouldn't hold it against you. Look after yourself and baby. I'm a bit luckier as my due date is in April so have to finish before SATS.
I made my own decision when to tell children. Just did it lol.

Just see how you go. Might be that you are exhausted by 39 weeks
