What can you use for Hemorrhoids in pregnancy?? I've never had them before in my life and am 28 weeks now. So embarrassing Blush

No advice I'm afraid but following this with solidarity/interest as I'm currently 26 weeks and have developed them today as well! So uncomfortable!

SomehowSomewhere1 · 02/01/2018 21:32

32 wks and they’re growing, raw, bleeding and so painful at times I can’t sleep - which is silly given everything else going on, but currently topping spd. Got steroid cream from docs but seems to be getting a lot worse since I started it on Friday. Went to the pharmacy but they redirected me back to the docs - I don’t like bothering them but it’s not much fun, and don’t want to have an op afterwards.

SomehowSomewhere1 · 02/01/2018 21:34

I’m on iron tablets, and constipation is the main culprit of them, but I have the opposite problem 😳

gryffen · 02/01/2018 21:40

Laxido to keep things fluid and easy to pass.
Lactulose will help things slide.
Prep H wipes will work too along with the cream (check it's safe to use)
Senna I think is safe but check.

Witch hazel apparently is good, also a dettol bath if possible to help ease the pain.

sammy891 · 02/01/2018 21:41

Thanks!! A bit hesitant to visit the docs but looks like it may be the only way to find out what creams I can use.

I started a thread on this (different username) the other week and I had a few good responses that have helped me.

I've is your best friend. It really helped reduce my hemorroids down. You can use a regular ice pack. But I've just invested in one of these: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01CSIDU8A/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ref=plSrch&keywords=hemorrhoids+ice&dpPl=1&dpID=31T99MOtXSL&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1514929218&sr=8-1

Anusol and Germaloids are similar creams that have helped me. But only if I apply then absolutely religiously 3 times+ per day.

Witch hazel helps with the soreness and I think helps reduce swelling. Use a little on cotton wool.

Finally Germaloids suppositories help with the internal hemorroids.

I have to be really on top of things and use these products like clockwork during a flair up (no good just applying Germaloids occasionally). It's been so much better this week.

Anusol, lactulose and lots of water! They will go after birth hopefully 🤞

Lilonetwo · 02/01/2018 21:43

Ice*

sammy891 · 02/01/2018 21:46

Wow thanks for the tips, hopefully they will help!

You can use germaloid and don't be afraid to pop them back in 😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈 they're not as painful that way! I hated them in pregnancy 😭

mamma2016 · 02/01/2018 21:57

Suffered with this throughout pregnancy and beyond! It's bloody awful!

My top tips:

Drink plenty of warm water.
Go to docs for suppositories/fibrogel/laxido.
Warm baths regularly and ideally after each bowel movement. Wash with coconut oil, not soap.
Use wet wipes rather than tissue.
Go to the loo with your feet raised.
Pelvic floor exercises.
Prunes everyday.

Afterconkerseason · 03/01/2018 03:47

I had huge ones at the end of my first pregnancy Blush they disappeared after the birth (section though). Anusol, lots of water and baby wipes instead of toilet paper!

hevonbu · 03/01/2018 04:47

Get one of those pillows to sit on, add fruit and fibre and perhaps "Fruit and fibre" (from Holland & Barrett) to your diet.

sammy891 · 03/01/2018 12:55

Been to the GP who prescribed Anusol after checking it was ok to use in pregnancy and Lactulose to help incase of any constipation. Going to pick up some fiber rich foods and witch hazel next Blush. Thanks everyone for the advice, gave me the courage to visit the doctor knowing I'm not suffering alone!

I get them and when really bad an icecube to the bum really helpsBlush

Candyfloss1122 · 03/01/2018 13:04

Lactulose did absolutely nothing for me and I was really suffering. This time round I have movicol...it's brilliant (although doesn't taste great). I had an awful time with piles after DD so strongly recommend getting it under control now with a stool softener think pile burst with needle in doctors surgery with 2 month old screaming dd I'd sooner give birth again!

sammy891 · 03/01/2018 13:56

@Candyfloss1122 that sounds terrible Shock! Hope it doesn't come to that Sad

OP just so you know you can buy Anusol over the counter at boots. So next time you don't need to have to go to your GP (I find it impossible to get an appointment. So it could save you a trip too)

Lilonetwo · 03/01/2018 15:13

P.s. try an ice pack. Ive had to use one today and it's really helped.

I was trying to be discreet this morning. My DH did look at me funny as he couldn't understand why I was lying on the sofa at an awkward angle. Eventually, I had to explain. He found it very funny that I was icing my bum.

PugwallsSummer · 03/01/2018 15:22

I had an awful case of piles after the birth of DD2. I was in agony and could only sit on a rubber ring - my stitches were nothing in comparison!

They eventually went after a few weeks of rigorous cleaning and applying of Anysol 3times a day and after every bowel movement.

Really unpleasant - I feel for you.

sammy891 · 03/01/2018 18:42

Thanks everyone. I was hesitant to buy any creams over the counter myself before asking GP first because it says on all the labels to check with your GP or Pharmacist if pregnant or breastfeeding. Now that I know it is ok next time will pick it up myself, saves the embarrassment of having to go in Blush
