Partners paternity... How does it work

OK so trying to remember when I had my DS and how it worked but dp was with a different company so had enhanced benefits
Dp is now with a small company.. So I know it's basic ssp etc.

His company know the due date. So what is the protocol.. Does he ring as soon as baby born to say.. Baby's here, I'm. Now starting my two weeks paternity leave?

Can they refuse it for any reason as the week after the due date someone is on holiday so if dp on pat leave it would mean there's two off at the same time?
Or does it count as different circumstances, as it's not both on holiday?

Put in his form now he needs to fill out some form at work we didn't do ours and did what you said and he just rung work and they couldnt give him the leave luckily he had hols instead to use.

Someone more knowledgeable will come along and explain it better I hope.

With my 1st my husband phoned to day baby had arrived and wouldn't be in the Monday. He was only allowed 1 week then back for week then off the following week. I don't think they are allowed to do that now.

With 2nd and 3rd we had induction dates so just started day of induction.

I don't think they are allowed to refuse? I'm not 100% sure though. Sorry.

Oh didn't know there was a form to fill in? They haven't mention that, on direct government site it states as long as they've had notice which they have but he will check.?

Hiya

You can choose a date, say 1st June, or you can say that you'll take it beginning when the baby is born (whenever that night be). You can also say I'll take it 1 week after the baby is born, for example.

You can take 1 week or 2. You can't take part weeks or split it over a period of time.

Leave can't start before the birth and should be completed by 56 days after. He or she will get 90% of their earnings of £140.98, whichever is lower if the company only provides statutory leave. The company may offer contractual leave, so worth checking the policy.

There's some eligibility criteria and a form on the gov.uk website to use, if the company don't provide their own form.

You should tell his/her employer by 15 weeks prior to the due date.

Hope that helps!

He had told the employer from day one.. But we didn't know about form. He's spoken to his manager and they said don't worry they will get it sorted. Thank you for your time
