What can I take for an extreme migraine? I'm 22 weeks pregnant.
Woke up feeling shitty this morning, I've had an intense migraine all day (to the point I can't move - I'm struggling to look after my 2 year old). I also have a runny nose and my whole body is aching, so it must be some sort of cold. But this migraine is killing me!

Are you prone to migraines?

Only thing you can take is paracetamol at the moment but if needed then call 111 who can advise or a local late night chemist who can as well.

I have idiopathic intracranial hypertension and my current migraine has lasted 17 weeks so far, not allowed to take my meds for it so I'm keeping hydrated and using 4head and cool patches over eyes.

It sucks, I truly get that as to get rid of my migraines I have to get a lumbar puncture to relief the pressure.

I take Imigran and during pregnancy had a migraine for weeks!! Research shows there is no evidence of damage to an unborn dc continuing with usual medication. My Dr prescribed it when mw said no!!

When I had a migraine where the pain was so bad that I could barely move and couldn't sleep, I called 111 (it was about 10/11pm at night), who got an OOH GP to call me within a few minutes and they assessed me and said I could take a dose of paracetamol & codeine and if that didn't make any difference to call back. Luckily it eased off the pain enough for me to fall asleep. I was about 6 weeks pregnant then.

The only thing you can take without medical advice is paracetamol.

If that doesn't touch it, the doc can suggest you try something else, but this should only be done under medical guidance.

It is possible (for example) to take ibuprofen, but only in the second trimester, and only with a doctor's say so

I take Imigran during pregnancy too. I researched the effects and there have now been several reliable studies that show it is safe for use in pregnant women. That's your choice to make though.

I also am prescribed co-codamol which can help with migraines but not always.

I hope you feel better soon x

Thanks ladies.
Dr Google suggests I have the flu. Migraine is just worsening and I feel so weak and tired. I feel so bad for my 2yo as I am barely able to change his nappy and feed him Sad
