Travel Cots

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Can anyone recommend a travel cot please?
Seems to be so many out there ranging from £20 - £200, that I am struggling with what to buy.

I just want a basic travel cot that is easy to fold away and store, as well as being lightweight. That isn't too expensive.

We will be going away for a few short breaks. 4-5 days at a time in places like France, Spain etc and need a travel cot for him to sleep in.
He will be between 3.5 - 6 months when we go away.

Thanks for the help all :)

Watching with interest..!

Also, any advice on a lightweight stroller would be appreciated as well please?

I have been recommended the Silver Cross Pop Stroller to take on holiday?
Anyone used that, and how have you got on with it?

Thanks

I would look to hire a travel cot when you are there. I wouldn't bother bringing one on a flight. Most hotels/villas/airbnbs probably have one to lend (or a full sized cot), but there are plenty of companies that do hires and will just drop one off for you. For a baby that small I'd also look to get a wrap or ergonomic carrier for travel as it's much easier, especially if you aren't doing city breaks with flat, smooth pavements. Alternatively, hire companies will also provide prams/pushchairs so you could get that with your cot.

We find maclaren strollers are good for holidays. Buy a second hand one as they get thrown around at baggage handling.

You can get a koo-di pop up travel cot which are brilliant. Super light weight and easy to fold away. They're like a little tent with a mattress. Perfect for holidays.

If want want inexpensive we have bought most of our travel bits off this website:

baby-travel.uk.com/collections/isafe-travel-cots-travel-play

We have travelled a lot this year and use travel bits weekly just for visiting friends etc..

They are really well priced and very well made, we have the iSafe travel cot (rectangular one) and it comes with a mattress for about £45 is really easy to put away/up and very compact for travelling. I must admit I don't like my little girl sleeping on just the bottom bit/mattress thing that comes with a travel cot so I have the mattress which obviously isn't quite as compact but we have taken it away in the uk in car and abroad on planes with no issues putting it through as your baby free baby equipment with cot itself. I also have the clip on high chair from this website that go on the table soooooo handy for when going out to others just on a daily basis but also travelling.

Pushchair wise we literally have the cheapest stroller is a Joie was like £40 in sale usually like £50ish in Argos I think only comes in pink or blue which is a bit of a pain but in the past year it's been to Austria, France twice, Sardinia and on uk holidays has faired being chucked on and off planes is so easy to open and close (I now use it instead of our silver cross travel system as am 29 weeks pregnant with second and is much lighter and easier to get in and out of the car when out with 21 month old!) I figured if I don't spend lots on it it's fine if it gets battered a bit while using it for travelling but I am really impressed with it for its price!

I did a lot of research as we regularly travel especially to France as my parents live there and must admit I would never waste spending loads of money of travel bits especially if it's for planes as they get so battered you don't want to waste too much money on things!

I got mine in the mother care sale

CatsCatsCats11 · 02/01/2018 18:26

We have a nuna sena travel cot as I wanted a better mattress than most had. A

Stroller we have three silver cross pop and I love it.

ClaireBear1986 · 03/01/2018 08:40

Thanks for all the help guys, really helpful of you :)
I'm going to get googling now, while the sales are on.

The chalet where we are staying in France doesn't offer a travel cot, and as we go away a lot I thought it would be handy to have our own anyway. Also handy to take to my parents as well when he stays there.

Will definitely be looking at a cheap stroller, as I used to be a holiday rep in family resorts, so I know how baggage control treat the pushchairs. Think on average I dealt with 5 broken pushchairs a day!! Nightmare!!
I am going to be getting a carrier, but the thought of constantly carrying him in that in hot weather doesn't really appeal to me.

I'm more than happy to pay extra to take the extra weight on the flight if need be.

Thanks again :)

We got the nuna sena mini to see us through the first year and now use it as a playpen when I need to shower or get dressed. Will need another this year though because it's too small to sleep in.

We got a my babiie stroller to take away. Was cheap because it was a bright colour and it's been brilliant so far. Also lies flat.

Candyfloss1122 · 03/01/2018 08:49

I'm obsessed with my baby jogger Citi tour...so light, folds so small...best money I have spent. Bugaboo donkey currently collecting dust as I prefer the stroller that's a 10th of the cost!

Melinda76 · 03/01/2018 09:17

I have the Nuna Sena as needed a good one for my daughter to sleep in at work several times a week. I liked the ease of putting it up and down, it has the bassinet bit for when she was tiny and also a really good mattress. (Now selling if anyone interested 😁)

I also use the Maclaren strollers for holidays great for ease of use and lightweight (also selling as have too many Buggy's 😂)

Rebeccaslicker · 03/01/2018 09:25

We have this one: www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/d6217.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_ZePury72AIVFDwbCh3LjwcNEAQYAiABEgJfw_D_BwE

It's been brilliant for DD, who's now 2.5, doubling up as a playpen when needed when we were away, and all being well it will do the new baby for the same come later in the year! You can find it cheaper on other sites i'm sure, but if you spread the cost over a couple of years of use, it's not bad.

coffeeandbiscuit · 03/01/2018 09:31

Can’t recommend the Babybjorn one enough. No fuss putting up or down, comfortable and comes with a mattress in the bag. It was used for more than 2 weeks on one trip when we travelled long haul and did us perfectly. Fits in a large suitcase too so you don’t have to take it separately. We’re using it several years on and have used it for friends children when they stay up till about 3 years. So many positives — except the price. But we’ve had so much use from it that it seemed worth it!

moggle · 03/01/2018 09:42

I’ve noticed that Argos now do a much much cheaper version of the babybjorn cot:
here
I would say if you’re actually taking it away with you that’s be a decent option.
We have a cheap (19.99) one from the Aldi baby sale, it’s by Hauck. Best thing is that it is full cot size (60x120) so uses same bedding and DD fit in it until she was almost 3. Weve taken it on trips and holidays by car but I probably wouldn’t fly with it, they are heavy.
Virtually all travel cots have a pretty thin mattress; our DD slept much better with an extra one. Canbuy them for £20 and up but obviously just add to the amount of stuff you have to cart around!

llangennith · 03/01/2018 10:35

As your baby is almost 6 months I’d go for a cot-sized travel cot. It’ll last longer.

ClaireBear1986 · 04/01/2018 10:46

Thanks for all the advice everyone, it was all really helpful.

And we have now ordered our travel cot and stroller, after a whole day of research yest.

I went for Silver Cross Pop Stroller and Graco Contour Electra and Bassinet Travel Cot. Both reduced in Mothercare Sale.

Got so much in their sale, and I have been really impressed with their service too.
Ordered my main pram Monday and it came Wednesday.
