Booking in tomorrow, ask for referral?

I have my booking in appointment with a midwife, will be seeing her at a local health centre.

First timer so if anyone has any tips on what happens at booking in then that would be helpful, but mainly I wanted to ask if I should request referral to specialist midwives at hospital, or to be consultant led?

I think I should, but the question is how to do it if it isn't suggested to me. Reasons, I am overweight and will be 41 by due date but also have chronic health problems with autoimmune condition affecting joints etc, mental health issues (am on Sertraline), and already have had issues with this pregnancy...bleeding and spotting which a scan has revealed are caused by a subchorionic haematoma.

Is that enough? 😀

That is most definitely enough. I had pre-existing slightly high blood pressure and historic kidney issues and was just told I would be consultant led, no discussion about it (fine by me). No need to worry, it's a very boring appointment where they ask you millions of health history questions.

They'll ask a lot of questions at your booking in and each is 'scored', with the issues listed they'll refer you automatically.
I'm 41 and my age would have been enough to have me consultant led, as it is I have a few other issues too.

Being consultant led means you still have midwife appointments but also extra appointments with your consultant, you'll probably have a couple of extra scans too.

Be honest, tell her everything. Consultant led sounds like a given, possibly with referral for perinatal mental health support too.

I was similar situation to you and I was automatically consultant led. Let it be and see what happens.

Thank you all. I will just give her the facts and hopefully she will refer.

There's generally a section in the booking appt/notes where the midwife has to make a recommendation or a decision about which pathway you will be on.

It's most likely they will automatically put you on the consultant led pathway, I wouldn't worry about having to ask about it any more unless you feel the midwife makes the wrong decision (unlikely).

Thanks for the advice everyone, you were right, midwife was very nice and I was referred to various things without needing to ask.
