Nicholas or Christopher as boys' names

I may be having a third boy next month and have completely run out of inspiration for boys names (loads and loads of girls names sadly).
I quite Nicholas (mainly because I like Nick), but it seems to have gone really out of fashion and not even in top 100.
Other than that, Christopher is the only other one I can think of.
Any opinions on these names gratefully received.
Thanks.

I think not being in top 100 is a great bonus
I like Nick as well

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 14:34

both excellent IMO

TooTicky · 24/04/2007 14:34

Nicholas is lovely. Doesn't matter if it's in fashion. Christopher is nice too.

bundle · 24/04/2007 14:34

FIL is called Nick so it was a non-runner for us.
the only boys' name we agreed on was Kit, which can be a diminutive of Christopher (we had girls though )

DrNortherner · 24/04/2007 14:35

I like Christopher (and Christian)

Nicolas is my ds's middle name after his uncle. My dh's family are French so we spell it the french way without the 'h'. It is abbreviated to Nic.

It's nice that is's not popular.

SmileysPeoples · 24/04/2007 14:46

I really like them both.

Classic but not currently overused.

I also like Christian.

GillL · 24/04/2007 15:02

Christopher is really nice.

ScottishThistle · 24/04/2007 15:06

I love Nicholas but I'm biased as I'm a Nik!

nailpolish · 24/04/2007 15:08

i really like Nicky for a boy

i fyou like Christopher how about Christian?

my other favourite boys name is Lindsey

Blandmum · 24/04/2007 15:08

I like them both. And as an added bonus I have never taught a horrid Christopher or Nicholas

also love Chris and Nick

lilibet · 24/04/2007 15:13

yes, lovely and I agree that its a real bonus that they are not in the top 100.

We know a Nicholas - it is a lovely name.
Prefer Christian to Christopher but like those too
Boys names are tricky. There is a lot less choice.

ScrubsDownWell · 24/04/2007 15:18

dh and bil are Christophe and Nicolas. Both lovely I think.

nailpolish · 24/04/2007 15:19

there is a Dimitri at dds school

fabulous name

SmileysPeoples · 24/04/2007 15:24

Another lovely classic but currently unerused name I think is Michael.

Cute shortened to Mickey or Mikey but with the original for gravitas when required.

Rosetip · 24/04/2007 15:59

Wow- thanks for really positive response.
I was expecting everyone to call me boring.
I may go for a slightly more quirky middle name such as Finn (or is this mainstream now?)

sorry not keen on either. I don't find them very masculine names.

Overrun · 24/04/2007 16:01

I like both of them, and their diminuitives. Its good if they are not too popular
I have 3 boys, and they all have middle names, thats 6 boys names for any one who can't count

belgo · 24/04/2007 16:01

both really nice names. and both masculine!

Nick and Nico are nice diminutives, and Chris and Kit.

yomellamoHelly · 24/04/2007 16:09

Have a Guy Christopher. So obviously like Christopher. We worried about shortening it for a baby - though think Chris sounds great once they're grown - hence the middle name status of it.
Not particularly keen on Nicholas, but each to their own.
Saw a really interesting article at Christmas saying if you called your kid Christopher the chances were really low that he'd ever meet another since it is so under-used now. Same applied to the name Peter.

Overrun · 24/04/2007 16:11

My dh is called chris, and much to his disgust as he got older he was called Chrissey when he was little
