Good afternoon Ladies!
So i got my BFP on Christmas Eve, and i’ve had planned for a while a Spa Day on Wednesday (currently 5 weeks gone),

I’m planning on having a 1hr massage during the day and i know when you go for a treatment they ask you if your pregnant.

Now...i love my massages, i need this massage lol after putting up with the in laws for 2 weeks staying with us over the festive period.

What are the dangers of having a full body massage when 5 weeks gone, if i mention that im pregnant am i likely to not get a good as massage etc. Should i disclose it to them or not and risk getting different treatments.

Thanks everyone

I’d phone beforehand and ask. I believe you have to be careful with jacuzzis and saunas as well as massages.

I don't think you need to worry at 5 weeks.

As a beauty therapist we are advised against body treatments and waxing in the 1st trimester. Some of treatments can be quite stimulating and mainly because if anything awful where to happen you'd look to things you might've done differently recently and the treatment could be one of them. Hope that makes sense! That being said I had treatments when in the first trimester without realising I was pregnant and was fine. Pregnant ladies where advised not to go in the hot tub etc at any point or sauna etc because of the baby not being able to regulate its temperature.

I'd probably save the spa day till you've had your baby when you can enjoy it without worrying or have a facial instead.

My nail place doesn't even allow you to turn the massage chair on when pregnant!

Most places won't give you a regular massage when pregnant and even those who are trained in pregnancy massage won't do it in the first trimester.

The whole spa experience is pretty pointless if you're pregnant. No hot tubs , saunas or steam rooms allowed. Many spas will refuse to give you a massage if you're in the first trimester of pregnancy and there are some essential oils that are dangerous to use, so you do need to disclose your pregnancy because you're at risk if you don't. I also chose to avoid swimming pools while pregnant because of the chlorine.

Wow, Thanks for letting me know of your experiences. I will phone them tomorrow when they are open and see what they recommend.

Forgot to add, im going with 3 friends as a catch up, (1 is back from aus for 2 weeks) so its going to be hard as none know im expecting. I think a facial is the best way to go

I went on a spa day at 5 weeks pregnant and they wouldn’t do any massages or facials. You can only have your nails done. Couldn’t properly enjoy the day was a waste of money really but I very cautious as I’ve had problems conceiving x

Some places have pregnancy treatments, my other half bought me one for Christmas so you can always ask for this and ask them to be discrete. Ive heard that you have to be over 12 weeks but I’m not sure if that’s for everything

I booked myself a spa day for my birthday when I was about 5 months pregnant. I let them know I was pregnant (and booked a pregnancy massage) they pointed out the areas to avoid (very few, just randomly some strong jets in one of the pools) and said that most of the thermal rooms were fine to go in for short periods of time and just to come out if I felt dizzy.

I also had a pedicure.

It was a really relaxing day.

Kimmyx · 01/01/2018 22:53

Oh my god I didn’t realise how bad this was!! I went for a Spa day when my sister was pregnant and the only thing she avoided was the prossecco and steam really room.

She dipped her feet in the jacuzzi though and we both got full body massages. Baby was absolutely fine. He’s now a 1 year old gorgeous boy.

She didn’t disclose it and it was very early on if I remember.

I’d definitely go with your gut instinct and see what they say

Have a lush time! X

I'd booked an incredibly expensive spa day for myself and two daughters. With a week to go, DD1 told me she was six weeks pregnant. The spa would only let her have a manicure. (They did refund her part of the cost).

MintTeaLady · 01/01/2018 22:59

Just to warn you, I booked in for a much needed facial when I was 8 weeks pregnant and I wasn't allowed to have it. Their insurance didn't cover any massages or facials in the first trimester. I was absolutely gutted, but ended up getting my nails done instead. Definitely give them a call to find out beforehand.

UnitedKungdom · 02/01/2018 03:45

I have often done spa treatments in pregnancy. They will often refuse to do treatments and stop you from entering the pools etc if they know so I make my own decisions and don't necessarily tell them. If I'm 2nd trimester plus, it's obvious so I of course book in for pregnancy based treatments and have had to sign a disclaimer on entering the water area. I don't really like saunas or steam rooms but would avoid them as they are too hot. My body knows what's appropriate or not. Pregnancy anxiety will kick in if anything feels too much in my experience but I wouldn't bat an eyelid at jacuzzis and pools and massages.
