Hi,

Which baby bath, shampoo, talc, creams, etc are best? I have eczema so mild is good. And what sort of products do I need? People have pointed me towards Aldi nappies and wipes but after that I’m clueless - first time mum, due Feb. Thank you :)

All of the earth friendly baby products are very good for sensitive skin. They are quite expensive though. I use johnsons normally but got gifted a load of the earth friendly stuff for my baby and it was lovely.

Child’s Farm are really good

Marmite27 · 31/12/2017 18:07

Second child’s farm.

Apparently talc is bad - but we only ever use it for sandy beach feet, so not really crossed that bridge.

gryffen · 31/12/2017 18:20

Aldi and lidl nappies/pants are brilliant as are their sensitive wipes.
We use Sainsburys own bathtime wash for our toddler and just basic Dermol when she was a baby.

Hypoallergenic is best, never tried Child's Farm but have heard mixed views on here.

Paddys stuff is horrible and oily imho

Spam88 · 31/12/2017 18:27

We just use water in the bath, occasionally use Johnson's shampoo if she has a lot of food in her hair. We use bepanthen on her bum and Vaseline on her eczema. Definitely no talc.

Found Aldi and Asda little angels nappies leaked and were too small/short on waist. The only nappies that have worked for ds have been pampers. He was a really long and skinny baby so they always pulled up nice and high and didn't leak. He went on to the pampers nappy pants at size 3 transferring from that pampers babydry and has stayed with the nappy pants ever since as great fit on him and don't sag. I think it depends on your baby as to what nappies you use as like us they're all different shapes and sizes so what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 18:31

I only started using baby bubble bath when ds was alittle older as when they're newborn they really don't need it, less product is best to avoid any skin dryness or irritation:

gandalfspants · 31/12/2017 18:57

Newborn: Aldi nappies, Aldi bum stuff (it's just Vaseline), metanium yellow for nappy rash, water wipes, nothing in the bath.

From about 3 months: Aldi nappies, Aldi bum stuff, Aldi sensitive wipes, burts bees baby bee bath bubble and shampoo.

It's fine for DD but I find the burts bees stuff a bit drying (uses it when we bathed together), so maybe not the best for eczema prone skin.

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 19:01

Huge tub of sudacrem. This last absolutely ages so well worth it. You only need a tiny bit at a time and ds has never had nappy rash and is now 10 months old.

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 19:01

lasts

NeilPetark · 31/12/2017 19:01

Aldi nappies are great, newborns don’t need anything in the bath, only use water.

Mummyhen5 · 31/12/2017 19:03

Aveeno everytime for eczema.

bobstersmum · 31/12/2017 19:14

Apparently the talc being a no no isn't a thing anymore? I was reading about it recently talc used to contain asbestos! But now it's removed so is apparently safe. Does anyone know any more about this?
Aldi baby things are great as a rule but I swear by pampers premium for newborns. Also I only used a pampers nappy at night for all my kids as they are more secure.
Vaseline is a must have for anything from barrier cream to sorting out very dry skin.

NeilPetark · 31/12/2017 19:17

I’ve never heard anything about talc and asbestos, but talc is an irritant to baby’s lungs and shouldn’t be breathed in.

TeddyIsaHe · 31/12/2017 19:18

Pampers nappies for newborns, Aldi when they’re a bit older.

Aveeno baby bath and moisturiser is the best, really gentle and smells lovely. Lasts for ages as well so it is more expensive but I’m only on my second bottle of both and dd is nearly 1.

Mummyme87 · 31/12/2017 19:20

Babies don’t need products.. water is fine. Nappies I found pampers best, aldi were good but personally I found them
A bit hard. Wipes I used cotton wool and water, water wipes and then reusable. This time I’m doing reusable nappies and wipes. Bum creams.. metanium, weleda and aveeno

I find anything that had much of a scent is a no go, so tended to go for shopnown brand stuff, avoiding Johnson’s/huggies mainly.

LML83 · 31/12/2017 19:26

I used boots own, asda and Tesco nappies for first DD all fine. For my 2nd the asda ones didn't fit him as well so maybe there is some trial and error. Don't assume(like I did first time) that the more expensive nappies must do something extra I found the cheaper ones just as good. Same with baby wipes. Adsa or Tesco have done the job even on ds sensitive skin.
We use sudocream for nappy rash.

pestov · 31/12/2017 19:32

Waterwipes right from the start
Burt's Bees wash, bubble bath and bum cream later
Childs farm conditioner if they're curly

Lj8893 · 31/12/2017 19:35

Just water is fine for babies, as they get older (6-12 months) then you can introduce something gentle. Some sort of nappy cream (sudocrem etc) for if they have any soreness, but otherwise nothing.

Personally I don't like wipes for newborns either and would recommend just cotton wool or soft flannels. Water wipes a good substitute though.

Kpo58 · 31/12/2017 19:57

I found that I needed to keep changing nappy brands depending on the age of my DD as the ones that were ok starting leaking and she wasn't big enough for the next stage up.

I use Johnsons baby shampoo and the occasional sudocreme if required. There is no real point putting other random stuff on babies unless needed.

Newborns don't need shampoo.

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 20:00

I used Huggies nappy wipes and good deal on these and nappies etc don't know if you have a costco? Otherwise Amazon baby club works out pretty well.

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 20:01

baby

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 20:03

pampers nappies

peanutbutter310 · 31/12/2017 20:13

To start we just washed DD with water, moved onto Aveeno after a couple of other products didn't agree with her skin.

We've used pampers since the start, tried a couple of different supermarket brands but just haven't found one with the same good fit and protection.

Topsyloulou · 31/12/2017 20:16

I used Aldi nappies for DS & they were great. With DD I'm using mainly Lidl nappies with the odd pack of Aldi if I'm passing. I've found the Lidl ones come up a bit smaller so I picked up a pack of Sainsbury's & they've been great. Aldi & Lidl sensitive baby wipes are fab. I've been using waterwipes with DD since birth, cotton wool & water are such a faff. I'll switch to Lidl wipes once my supply of water wipes runs out.

In terms of bath products I use just water. I've just started adding child's farm newborn bubble bath when DD & DS go in together but if it's just DD I stick to water. DS has the occasional eczema flare up & I've used Oilatum junior & childs farm & both have been good.

I only used anything on his bottom when he actually had nappy rash & then I used the yellow metanium.

It's worth looking at Amazon for things as you can get very good deals on subscribe & save. I get my child's farm products from there.
