BFP this morning. #1 what do I need to do?

FRER test gave hubbie and I great news this morning.

However this is any #1 and I really am utterly clueless. I know I need to ring the GP on Tuesday to get the ball rolling. I know booze and coffee are out and folic acid is in. But what else do I need to do?

Also my back is seriously achey.

All advice appreciated!

Congratulations! You don't need to do anything else. Your GP's surgery will schedule a booking appointment with your midwife, so all you need to do is take your folic acid/prenatals and stay away from alcohol, pate, blue cheese etc. You can find lists of foods not recommended in pregnancy online.

Aches and pains are normal, don't worry. Grab a hot water bottle or have a nice warm bath.

Good luck Grin

Great way to start 2018!

Yep, call the surgery and ask how you refer to the midwife, you shouldn't need to see a GP first.

There isn't anything else you really need to do. Don't stop doing things you would normally except drinking and some foods- use the NHS as to what to avoid.

Personally, if you don't exercise already, I'd take some up. I really really wish I'd been fitter in labour!

Congrats on your pregnancy. You really don't need to do much right now, other than relax, rest if you need to, and take your folic acid and no drinking. Coffee is fine. I have a cup or two a day and have in all my pregnancies. There are foods you should avoid or be careful about, but you don't need to stress too much about that right now. I've personally never seen my GP in any pregnancy. Here we self-refer to the midwives and they book your first appt, but no harm in calling and asking how it works. There's no rush. I don't usually call before 5 weeks. They'll usually see you arounnd 7-10 weeks. Otherwise, just take it easy and get yourself some rest, especially if you are feeling ill.

Congratulations! Lovey news for you.

Speak to your GP’s receptionist on Tuesday and they will be able to tell you if you need a GP referral to the midwives or if you just go direct to them (as each area is different).

Usually the midwife will see you for your first appointment at 8-10 weeks. So for the first bit you don’t get to interact much with the NHS. There is a great web page though which lists what you should and shouldn’t eat/drink etc www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/pregnancy-and-baby-care.aspx

Folic acid is the main thing. So exciting for you ! You can take simple paracetamol for pain but mainly try to rest up.

BertieBotts · 31/12/2017 14:09

Congratulations!

Check list if foods allowed on nhs website.

Buy folic acid from boots unless you already have some.

Call doctor, but no rush on this as they won't see you until 8-10 weeks anyway.

In the meantime if you experience any bleeding, heavy cramps or abdominal pain, go to the early pregnancy unit at your nearest hospital.

Good luck!

You don't even need to see or speak to your Dr depending on where you live, I didnt. I self referred at 6 weeks pregnant (earliest I could do it) and then got my first midwife appointment at around 8 weeks pregnant.

Read up on the NHS pregnancy advice such as what you can and can't eat and drink, risks you may be open to if you have cats/are a gardener (toxoplasmosis) etc and start taking pregnancy vitamins.
