To sweep or not to sweep?

I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday, which is my due date. I'm not sure if I'll be offered a sweep or not. I had 2 with my previous pregnancy. One before I was induced which didn't work and one during induction which seemed to work as my waters broke about an hour later. Both I found extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant bordering on downright painful. I've been doing a bit of research and read somewhere that they're only successful about 30% of the time.

If I am offered one I'm tempted to decline and wait a bit longer until I'm actually overdue. On the other hand I'm so sick of being pregnant! Also I'm really keen to avoid induction this time if I can help it.

What would you do in my situation?

I would wait. I found them painful and they didn’t work, so if you’re not actually overdue I wouldn’t have one.

I'd have one agin. Mine was totally pain free and got things gently going.

I didn’t have one with either of mine. I wasn’t convinced they would do anything really and I’m not so impatient that I can’t wait for nature to take its own course.

Actually, with baby #2 I knew exactly what I had coming so I was happy to stay pregnant for as long as possible 😂

I had one and contractions started within hours. I was in pre-labour for about 3 days and it was horrible. Could be total coincidance but I wouldn’t have one again.

Don't know if it's true as am still pregnant with my first but a midwife told me cum can do the same thing as a sweep

NICE guidelines don’t recommend a sweep until 41 weeks when it’s not your first baby, so if your trust have this as their policy, you wouldn’t be offered till later on, giving you a bit more time.

Our area also offer a sweep at due date, I will be 39+6 on Friday when they offer mine, but I'm thinking I will say no until actually overdue too.

Interesting everyone, thank you! I think if I am offered one (I'm not sure if I will be) then I will hold off at least another week. Hopefully I won't go on for that long!

@Firstchild7 I had read that before but it would have to be desperate measures before I resorted to that the way I'm feeling right now Grin

@Hotpinkangel19 I recognise you from the January babies board - I hope things get moving for you quickly too. This waiting around stage is the worst bit!
