Managing food cravings

Hi all.

7 weeks with DC2 (going by LMP), sick as a pig again. I can't have more than a sip at a time of pure orange with soda water (the only fluid I can keep down), and I'm only managing to eat one or two mouthfuls at a time (my 21 month old is eating more than me at the moment). The thing I'm craving, and the only thing that seems to settle my stomach, is salty potato of all things! Crisps are no good, as the grease makes me heave. So far I'm living off either baked or mashed potatoes with salt on and nothing else. I've tried home made oven chips with a view to making veggie chips with carrots, parsip, swede etc, but I can't stand the texture. I managed about a tablespoon of sweetcorn yesterday which stayed down, and about the same amount of peas today, which didn't.

Any ideas of things I might be able to try that are a little healthier? I'm aware the salt isn't great, but I'm not going over the RDA still, as I'm not eating anything processed at the moment, so no hidden salt; it's just the sprikling I'm putting on my meal, which is litearally taking me about 6 hours to eat.

I'm taking the pregnancy vitamins, but seldom keeping them down, even crushed up. Does anyone happen to know if I can dissolve them in a drink and them still be effective?

I was sick for the whole pregnancy with DS1, so I'm not anticipating this passing in a few weeks time or I wouldn't fuss so much.

Hi,
Pass except usually they say eat what you can and don’t force yourself. I’d hop over to: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3112864-Hyperemesis-Support. They’ll have all the info and support.

I'll get shot down going on a hyperemesis board for morning sickness! Thanks for the thought though.

I would just eat what you can or what you fancy. I had hypermesis and was worried that I wasn't eating enough but I have a very healthy little girl! My problem was I'd buy food I fancied on way home from work then didn't want it by time I got home!!! Hope you feel better soon.

Try taking your vitamins last thing at night, if sleeping would help you not vomit them up.

Otherwise just eat what you can! Salt is important, you aren't having too much so don't worry about that.

Just eat what u fancy keeping any food down is better than nothing

My sickness is 24 hour. I don't know how much of it is exhaustion related. Between getting up to hurl, my restless legs and a BF toddler I'm getting very little sleep at the moment. I always get sick when I don't get enough rest which won't be helping.

I was the same with DS, and he was born a perfectly healthy 8lb1oz, but I ended up very ill post delivery, as my body was so depleted of everything. I've tried to head it off by taking pre-conception supplements this time, but I don't know how much, if any impact that will have. I'll struggle with a newborn and a toddler if I'm as ill post delivery this time as I was last time. I need some nutrients into me, and I've no clue how to do it. I tried making a smoothie earlier with a view to freezing it into lollies, but just the sight of the blended fruit and juice turnedmy stomach, so DS will be getting those.

There's a Morrisons literally at the end of my road, and I'm a SAHM for the moment, so in theory I could go over every time something takes my fancy, but you can't get in without walking past the fish counter. When I was pregnant with DS I hurled spectacularly all over the floor in there, so I daren't go in feeling how I do.

My mum told me u can make a drink with marmite just a spoon full of marmite and hot water marmite has loads of vitamins in, could give it a go see if u can keep it down

I wouldn't aim for healthy, I'd aim for anything. If you are really struggling, Nutella on a spoon, plain boiled pasta, ready salted crisps, Macdonalds fillet of fish, are all way more nutritious than nothing at all (calories, fats, carbohydrates, salts, protein are all essentials and will help). The prenatal vitamins really should have helped build up a store. Sorry you are struggling!

Pannacott · 31/12/2017 01:13

Can you just buy in loads of random stuff? Even if you end up throwing most of it away. I ate crunchy not cornflakes with single cream most meals for two weeks then went totally off them. Actually, cereals do tend to have added nutrients if you can bear them?

PeapodBurgundy · 31/12/2017 09:42

I can't deal with any strong smells or flavours, anything with grease or oil is a no go,as is anything that might stick in my mouth, so anything dry like crisps or cereal I can't manage. I'm dairy free at the moment, as DS is CMPI and still BF so that rules out a lot of things too.
