Exposure to slapped cheek

4yo DD has slapped cheek. I'm 14+1 and I understand there's a risk of complications if I'm not already immune. I'm waiting for a callback from 111 but does anyone have any experiences in the meantime, please?

Yes! Presuming you've already booked at a hospital and had blood taken for virology testing then they need to be contacted to check that sample for previous immunity to parvovirus. You should be able to do this over the phone through your midwife or the Labour Ward. There's a good chance you've already had it so that means you can't get it again. If you haven't (like me) then you need your blood tested again in a month for parvovirus IgG and IgM to see if you've picked it up from DD. If you have picked it up you'll have more frequent scans, but the odds of everything being Ok are very much in your favour.

I'm a teacher so was exposed to it that way. I called my gp and had to have another blood test and wait a few weeks to find out the results (I'm fine- have had it in the past and didn't know!). From what I recall many people are already immune to it having had it in the past. Hope all is ok.

Thank you both. 111 were as helpful as they could be in the circumstances as there isn't an awful lot to be done. I'm to refer myself urgently for a blood test at the GP tomorrow to check if I have been infected. If so there's nothing to be done apart from extra scans to check that all is well. I'm also a teacher so I'm hoping that I have a higher than usual chance of having been exposed in the past without knowing.

My dd had this when I was 10 weeks then my ds when I was 11 weeks. I had bloods done and they came back I had immunity.
If your a teacher chances are you have probably been exposed to it in the past and have some immunity. That’s what they told me I used to work in a nursery and they said they would have been shocked if I wasn’t immune. I know it doesn’t help the worry. Good luck but sure will be fine
Plus you can’t tell till the obvious red cheek appears and even then it’s not contagious anymore. Kids hey Hmm

Quick update for anyone who might be in a similar situation in the future: blood test results showed that I have the antibodies for parvo so I am immune. Such a relief!
