Does heartburn get worse with each pregnancy ? It's at the point where I'm almost vomiting most nights now from it , I've never had it this bad before ! I'm 28 weeks with my third

I've had two so not enough to give any concrete evidence.
But it was bad with my first. Really bad. I was sobbing some nights.

Second was horrific. I thought it was going to put me in the hospital.
Now I'm not a wimp. I delivered two 9lb + babies with just G&A one of which was Back to back. But that heartburn almost broke me.

I am now 39 weeks and have had it really badly since about 28/29 weeks. It's horrendous. Waking multiple times in the night feeling like I'm going to vomit.

I started on Rennies and moved onto Gaviscon - the dual action tablets. They helped a bit but it's out of control now.

My boss (pregnant at same time as me) said she got some prescription tablets but when I mentioned it to the midwife (who has been great in all other respects) she said it was just a symptom of pregnancy and basically I needed to suck it up. Saw a different midwife at my last appointment this week and she said 'oh have you been to the doctor to get a prescription for X tablets'?! I almost screamed! 5 days to my c section so no point now but it's worth seeing your GP to try to get these tablets as you've got a fair way to go and mine has got worse over time.

My ob didn't really want to prescribe anything either, but in the end gave gaviscon pouches. Though he said eating little and often would improve the problem.

Mine basically came from eating yoghurt for breakfast. As soon as I went for quark, it went. Apart from a bit of reflux but I could keep that to a reasonable minimum by sleeping propped up.

Actually following the general advice for heartburn is probably the best idea rather than medication.

Id defined get some ranitidine or omeprezele (sp?)

thingymaboob · 30/12/2017 10:22

Get prescribed omeprazole- it's safe in pregnancy and very effective.

LittleWingSoul · 30/12/2017 11:26

I've been using ranitidine just before bed but sometimes that doesn't even cut it.

A few nights ago I was up every hour being sick, yuck.

I'm just trying to eat a lot less throughout the day and not eat until I feel full (which isn't much at 38+4 weeks). That seems to have helped massively.

My 3rd DC as well OP.

I suffered with terrible heartburn with my first 3 pregnancies (for what it's worth not a single one had a head of hair 😂). You have my full sympathy, it's horrible. I would get heartburn just from drinking water. Haven't had anything with this baby.... yet. Rennies and gaviscon just don't cut it sometimes and you may need to see the doc.
