Slimming World/weight loss in pregnancy?

Hello.

I am roughly 6 weeks pregnant but probably around 1.5 stone overweight. In my last pregnancy I ballooned and put on 5 stone Confused although I did have a nearly 11lb baby and a LOT of waters, I still shouldn't have got that big. I was diagnosed with GD late in my last pregnancy so am starting to adopt a GD diet as of next week; but I REALLY don't want to get that fat again and to be honest I would like to lose weight now.

Can I do slimming world? Would the limits of a GD diet be enough to see me drop the pounds? I do a fair amount of walking and play sport a couple of times a week but that will have to stop due to pregnancy.

Any suggestions?

I've not done it myself but I've heard that slimming world is suitable during pregnancy, Although they won't recommend that you lose weight. I'm not sure about the other type of diet but I'm sure your midwife will be able to help.

What sports do you do? Unless it's something like scuba diving I don't think you'll need to stop that and walking. Guidelines are that you can keep doing what you were doing pre pregnancy with a few extreme exceptions.

SW is endorsed by the royal college of midwives. There are some alterations to the plan, mainly extra healthy extras. I'm planning to start in January, as I'm quite overweight and want to limit my weight gain from this point onwards for the baby's sake. I'm 23 weeks now, and I know that I eat more healthily on SW, fruit and veg etc. the only thing that could be a bit dodgy is if you go all in on the mug shot/low fat ready meal side of SW which obviously isn't hugely good for you, but if you focus on cooking fresh food and avoiding crap then you will be fine x

My midwife referred me to a healthy mum support group as my BMI was on the high side, worth asking if your area has any resources like that you can be referred to?

Basically they said that they would visit me at home regularly, support me with diet, exercise and weight management in a pregnancy safe way. I declined as I was on top of it anyway, thanks to some major lifestyle changes just after getting pregnant, but they seemed very helpful.

Slimming world is great for pregnancy. It's essentially just healthy eating. They even have specific rules for pregnant women which ensures you get the right nutrition.

Ok great. Thanks, SW sounds positive then. My sport I would have to stop playing as it is in a competitive league and therefore I'm not allowed to play for insurance purposes.

Has anyone done SW and is also diabetic? Wondering how compatible it is especially as I'm pretty new to working out food pairings etc.

I joined sw 4wks before finding out i was pregnant and have lost 3.1st (am now 33wks) all done healthily and consultants are happy my bmi has dropped from 48 to 31. Ok still got a few st to lose after bubs is born and am not sticking to plan to religiously towards the end. But it has been easy im eating more now than ever and discovered im a pretty good cook :) although u are encouraged to maintain weight on plan while pregnant as i was very porky i kept on losing 2-4lbs weekly. My friend who joined with me is type 2 diabetic and was heavily medicated she has lost over 4st and is now on hardly any meds at all. Her dr is very happy with her also.

I stated Slimming World in June being slightly overweight, lost two stone and am now a healthy weight and 10 weeks pregnant. I asked my midwife yesterday if it was ok if I still carried on following the plan to minimise excessive weight gain rather than to lose weight and she was really happy with that.
Like a previous poster mentioned, make sure you follow it from the angle of cooking from scratch and eating lots of fruit and veg instead of ready meals.
Good luck!
