What do numbers on ultrasound mean

So I had an early ultrasound (couldn’t resist as I felt like I had nothing to show for being pregnant)

But there’s a percentage at the bottom next to the gestational age which I don’t understand. On one photo it says 7w 3d < 3% and on the other it says 7w 4d 3%

Does anyone know what these percentages mean ??

I was wondering this too (mine was 8w 0 >93%)

I thought it was percentile - as in, measuring big for the number of weeks (which makes sense for me, as I ovulate early)

I don't think it can be this, as the size is how they're doing the dating - so you can't be 'big for 8+0', they'd measure that as '8+4' or whatever.

Mine doesn't have that but does have '+- 6 days', so I suspect it may be an accuracy measurement (and one of you got the accuracy measurement and one of you got the 'inaccuracy'). That's just a guess, though!

If that was the case surely 3% would be a little worrying, and the sonographer didn’t say anything about it, she said everything was totally fine and nothing to worry about, I’d thought about it being a % error as in maybe she did 5 measurements and the highest and lowest were 3% higher or lower than the average

Could be error bars? As in, they could be 3% wrong in either direction?

Laurenb93 · 29/12/2017 10:31

I’d originally thought error bars, so frustrating that they don’t mention what the numbers mean !

The size is how they're dating, but a 93% 8w0 could be a 50% 8w5 baby (totally making these numbers up, but you see what I mean)

I told sonographer we were expecting to be 8 weeks, so that's what she started with.

I then looked up my measurements and sure enough - they are on the high side for an 8w baby

And this one

As for difference between the measurements, I was given a list of all my measurements, and they were all fairly similar (5 of them)

But I don't think you should be worried - it's notoriously difficult to get accurate measurements from an ultrasound, particularly at this stage. Most important thing is to see a strong steady heart beat

Laurenb93 · 29/12/2017 10:49

I might just call babybond and ask

Yeah, phone and ask. If it was anything to worry about, they'd have said, so it's probably totally random, like percentage error, as others have said. Having said that, if you're like me, you'd be better knowing than worrying, so just phone and they'll put your mind at rest!

I told sonographer we were expecting to be 8 weeks, so that's what she started with.

But in that case she's not dating it at all, because the only way to do that is by assuming it's 'average' size. That's why it's not 100% accurate.

NimbleKnitter · 29/12/2017 13:18

No, I don't think she did date it accurately.

The measurements were within the parameters, so she went with what we were expecting
