Is it realistic or do they put the dramatic cases on ?

I've wondered this too. We've been Ttc for over a year and I've been broody for a while before that. I'm anxious about all sorts of medical stuff but OBEM has freaked me out about ever needing forceps or a c section so much so that i took up an exercise regeime mainly ti ensure I'm in as low risk possible state for when we finally decided to TTC.
Are the c sections as scary as it's shown on there?

I bloody love that show and it always makes me broody and reminisce about my births.
I'm glad I didn't watch it before my first was born otherwise I might have had a more rose-tinted view of what would happen: that I would turn up at the hospital, be sat in bed having snacks and reading magazines, have a walk around to get things going, have pain relief offered, my own lovely midwife, etc. In real life they don't let you in at my local hospital until you're at the pushing stage and don't really have the staff.
I watched it in the run up to my subsequent labours with fascination though, as every birth is different and I found it so exciting!

@firsttym yep I was always told that lying on your back wasnt the best way to give birth and it makes sense to have gravity on your side! I moved around as much as possible during my labour and spent a lot of time kneeling when pushing. I had an easy and quick birth.

Obviously I understand if you have to have constant monitoring or if you have an epidural you can’t be as active but the majority of mothers on obem seem to be totally stationary!

I loathe OBEM.

Youtube videos for homebirth/ hypnobirthing.

Lollipop30 · 30/12/2017 03:33

With my first I was made to lie on my back. I didn’t question it as they’re the experts. It was horrific.

Homebirth for the next two, do what I like!
Also I agree hypnobirthing is amazing get on YouTube

I thought it gave an overly positive view of birth. And as for a midwife never having run down a hallway shouting, while I was in labour I heard midwives shouting with true panic in their voices to take the woman in the room opposite me to theatre.

Lules · 30/12/2017 04:09

Sorry that probably wasn’t helpful. Lots of people have good births. Experiences vary hugely

LuchiMangsho · 30/12/2017 04:28

Hmm I have been the emergency button, people yelling birth. But it was a premature baby and almost became a Cat 1 C section.

But my other section (and actually this one too) were non scary, calm with quick recoveries.

firsttym · 30/12/2017 04:29

@Lules i actually didn't find it that bad myself. Im glad people are telling me they are the bad one because that reassures me about labour. Yeh my friends have told me when an alarm
Is pushed they come running in lol.
Im actually excited now the show had helped. Im doing it more for education purposes now 😂

I never screamed in labour, not even once. It's only the extra dramatic ones that end up on that programme

Thursdaydreaming · 30/12/2017 06:23

OBEM can't win, because half the people say it's makes labour look easy, the other half say it's over dramatised and makes it look too traumatic.
