Worried about what could go wrong

Hi

I just found out 2 days ago that I am 2-3 weeks pregnant (clear blue digital test). I am over the moon. I can't stop thinking about what could happen and whether the egg is definitely fertilised etc. I understand that 1 in 5 pregnancies miscarry before 12 weeks. What I'm trying to understand is whether the becoming-pregnant-process is now complete? Thank you in advance

I've not used those tests. Is your period actually late?

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 27/12/2017 13:21

If a test is positive there is HCG in your urine, which means that a fertilised egg has implanted in your uterus. So yes, the process of becoming pregnant is now complete.

There is still a risk of loss of the pregnancy, but it drops with every day that passes and is only 1% by 12 weeks.

You are already (assuming you are under 40) about 75-80% likely to have a live birth, so try to think positive.

Hi congratulations on your BFP.

I'm afraid no one can you give you answer. They say if you hear a heartbeat at 8 weeks you've got 95% chance at live birth.

But still every pregnancy is different.

Worrying about it won't change the outcome. Try and relax, easier said than done I know, but worrying will achieve nothing, it will only take the excitement out of your pregnancy.

Good luck OP

Yes I haven't had one since October - my cycle is still irregular since I have stopped being on the Deop injection

Thank you both. Yes- under 40 and healthy (I think). I just can't imagine our disappointment after this Christmas miracle if anything went wrong x

Ok. If you’re getting 2-3 weeks pregnant on a digital test you’d be classed as 4-5 weeks pregnant by your midwife - that should be the time since your last period?
Your egg has definitely been fertilised and has implanted in your uterus and your body is releasing HCG which is what’s been picked up by the digital test.
You need to take folic acid and vitamin d now and make sure you avoid too much caffeine alcohol soft unpasteurised cheese etc. Have a look on The NHS website for more information about what to avoid during pregnancy.
In terms of what could go wrong - unfortunately lots. But the likelihood is that you will have a problem free pregnancy and a beautiful baby in 9 months time.
Have a look at your local hospital and see whether you need to see a Gp or can be self referred to see a midwife there - they’ll book you in around 9/10 weeks and then you’ll have your 12 week dating scan to check measurements of baby etc. They’ll be able to explain more to you at your booking in appointment.
Good luck.

I went to see my doctor this morning and I should be in contact with a midwife today or tomorrow. I bought the pregnacare max yesterday and took the tablets yesterday and today. I don't drink caffeine but up until I found out on Christmas Day I was drinking (only a little, not excessively) so that is concerning me too. Thank you for your advice, fingers crossed. I'm confused too because my last period was October 9th (ish) but if I look at my dates of conceiving it does match up to the 2-3 weeks on the test. Ahhh 😭

Don’t worry about having had a few drinks! Baby isn’t connected to you that way yet so will not have been affected. Honestly it’s fine.
That’s why the dating scan is important - especially if you have whacky or super long cycles. Let your midwife have all the info and see what they say.
Exciting times!!

pregnantwithbabyone · 27/12/2017 14:01

I think that because the start of my last period would make me 11 weeks I should be able to have a scan now to find out for sure. Every single cramp I get petrifies me so much 😭 thank you xx

Why don't you pay for a private scan so you know?
