Today baby has been really quiet and not stuck to his ‘usual’ movement pattern. He is moving, just not with his usual vigour and everything he’s doing feels a bit half arsed.

I don’t want to seem over dramatic phoning the midwife (out maternity unit is drastically understaffed) sewing as he is still moving, just not as much or as vigorously.

Opinions?

Ring! I actually rang with a much more spurious enquiry (increased movement) and they were great. They want you to call, it’s what they are there for.

Grimmfebruary · 26/12/2017 13:54

Our seeing 😒😒

I just feel a bit daft as he is moving, just nothing like he usually does. He’s usually really active on a morning when I first get up and have breakfast and he’s usually had a good shift about at this time. He’s done a few wriggles and not much else.

I know, I felt really daft as well but it’s definitely a thing that they want you to call about. Odds are they’ll ask you some questions, it will prob be fine, and you’ll be able to set mind at rest. Or they may want to monitor you: let them do the triage and risk assessment, it’s what they are there for. Better a phone call than obsessively googling...

Almostthere15 · 26/12/2017 14:01

Ring them straight away. Any deviation from your normal patterns should be checked and generally don't mind!

RatRolyPoly · 26/12/2017 14:06

Well look, if you weren't feeling very well you'd still be moving about wouldn't you, but you'd hardly be bouncing around as usual. Think of it that way. Of course some days we just don't move around as much for no reason at all, but the fact is you can't tell with an unborn baby which it is without letting the professionals decide. So do please go in, you'd be absolutely right to.

Grimmfebruary · 26/12/2017 14:40

Thanks for the advice, I just didn’t know if I was being overly cautious

Absolutely ring. They will probably get you in and have a check up
See it as an extra chance to hear the heart beat

Makingahome · 26/12/2017 14:53

Ring.

You should been attached to monitor so heart beats and movements can be assessed.

If you are told to lie down and have a cold or fizzy drink to prompt movements then that is very outdated dangerous advice and you should ask to speak to the supervisor of midwives.

It currently feels like He’s got hiccups but it feels like he’s sitting dead high coz I feel like I’ve got period cramp under him?! Weird.

I promise you they absolutely will not mind you ringing! With my baby I went in about three times with reduced movement and they were so great and said absolutely the right thing to do. As they always said to me, better to be safe than sorry!

thaigreencurry82 · 26/12/2017 15:27

I went in with reduced movements at 24 weeks. They were more than happy to see me and said they’d rather check a million times rather than have a woman ignore it and be a poor outcome.

LuchiMangsho · 26/12/2017 15:30

Go. Absolutely go. I won't give you scary stories unless you want them but GO.

Grimmfebruary · 26/12/2017 15:33

Well I’ve spoken to a midwife and because my local maternity is shut I need to go else where to be monitored. So need to decide where to go and phone her back.

Please please go and get checked out, I know someone who didn't and it is not a happy ending.

katmarie · 26/12/2017 15:39

I had exactly the same at about 35 weeks, baby was still moving but nowhere near as much and the usual pattern was not happening at all. I called my mlu, they had me in for monitoring, and everything was fine. I told my community midwife at my next appointment, and said I felt a bit silly, worrying over what turned out to be nothing. She said that even though everything was fine it was absolutely the right thing to do, if it happened again to do exactly the same again without question, and to never ever feel guilty about taking up the time of the midwives at the maternity unit, that's precisely why they are there. She was really firm about it.

Babies are not robots, and neither are we, they will inevitably react a little to whatever circumstances they and we experience, and so no movement pattern is going to be 100% the same every single day, also as they get bigger movements will feel different, more sweeping and stretching and less 'punchy'. However if you are at all concerned, if you're anything like me you won't be able to settle until someone with some authority in the area is able to reassure you. Even if it's just to set your own mind at rest, call them and let them help.

AdidasGirl · 26/12/2017 15:52

Please ring.
Nobody will mind.
It's one of the things they stress on about.
If movements have reduced..Ring.x

Grimmfebruary · 26/12/2017 16:45

Going in for a check now :)

Wonderful :) fingers crossed it's all ok for you x

Grimmfebruary · 26/12/2017 18:34

Had half an hour on a monitor, nothing wrong with the awkward little beast. Did have a lot of strong braxton hicks was checked by a doctor before leaving in case it was early labour - but thankfully not! I have nothing organised or ready and he’s due in 7 weeks!

Yay! You did the right thing.

Almostthere15 · 26/12/2017 18:50

So glad - but it sounds like you need to pack a hospital bag Wink

MrsMozart · 26/12/2017 18:55

Hope he stays put until he's meant to be putting in an appearance!

Grimmfebruary · 26/12/2017 19:41

I’m going to go out tomorrow and buy all the bits I think I need to take and sort all baby’s clothes out 😂 give me a bit of a fright! Haha.
