10 weeks - bleeding after pooing

Sorry for the blunt subject line, but for the past couple days I've been wiping away red blood after going to the loo. There's been a few small clots as well. I haven't been straining that hard either. I'm really panicking though as no longer feel sick and my boobs are no where near as sore as they have been. Already had 2 miscarriages :( Anyone else experienced this and it's all been ok?

My suspicion is that you have a low lying placenta. But only a scan can confirm that. I would recommend that you have a really fibrous diet and drink loads of water to avoid straining and also rest till you get more answers at your scan.

Sorry, it's not clear where the blood is coming from. As you say it's after pooing I was assuming its from your back end in which case I'd assume piles which are very common in pregnancy.

If it's vaginal bleeding then I'd see a midwife or doctor as soon as possible. Please don't assume the worst though. I have a few friends who have bled during pregnancy with absolutely no complications at all.

Sorry I wasn't clear, it's vaginal bleeding. Once I've wiped it all away, it's all gone if that makes sense. Then no new blood until I next have to go. I might give the midwife a call today as we're off on holiday tomorrow first thing, so it's not like anything can be done really anyway. Being pregnant is so nerve wracking!

This kept happening to me too with one of my pregnancies and they said my cervix was very sensitive from the hormones and when u pooped and pushed it often made my cervix bleed a tiny amount. It never happened in my other pregnancies only my girl. She’s happy and healthy btw

MagicFajita · 26/12/2017 11:42

This happened to me op , I had spotting after a poo. It settled down as my pregnancy progressed and my son is fine.

Please do get checked out if you're worried though.

ScarlettDarling · 26/12/2017 12:01

A friend of mine had a polyp on her cervix which was only found when she was pregnant as it would bleed intermittently. It could be many things, lots of which aren't scary, but you do need to get checked.

Thanks ladies. Called 111 and currently waiting for a call back from an oncall doctor. Boxing day plans are out the window now as waiting nervously by the phone!

Got a call back and wanted me in for a scan this week, I said we were away so now I have to wait a couple weeks for my 12 week scan. The doctor didn't really say much about the bleeding or lack of symptoms, just that nothing they could do would change the outcome. I really don't have a good feeling about this :( I might be blowing it all out of proportion, but I just feel so worried.

I'm sorry you're so worried. What a horrible way to spend Christmas. I know you said you're away on holiday, but is there not a maternity assessment unit nearby you could visit? Let us know how you get on. For what it's worth, I'm not an expert, but I'd be inclined to think that only bleeding after you've been to the loo is a good sign. I'd be inclined to think that anything too serious wouldn't only lead to bleeding after you've been for a poo. Good luck.

LucyLogan · 26/12/2017 20:40

It could be a cervical ectropion. I had it in all three of my pregnancies. If they offer an internal examination, I would take it because it will put your mind at rest. It's so scary, hugs.

LucyLogan · 26/12/2017 20:42

Sorry, realise I didn't actually say what that is. From the NHS site :

Cervical ectropion
Cervical ectropion is where there are harmless changes in the neck of the womb (cervix). It’s the most common cause of bleeding during the later stages of pregnancy.

LucyLogan · 26/12/2017 20:43

Mine was early stages though, usually after a bowel movement and stopped happening at round about 24 wks.

momjeansep · 26/12/2017 20:44

I’d be more conceded about having a scan than going on your jolly’s. can’t you ask to be scanned somewhere local if in the uk?

purplecorkheart · 26/12/2017 20:50

Are away now? If not stay home and get the scan, nothing is more imporyant. If you are away already ring nearby hospitals and explain.

Loosemoose28 · 26/12/2017 21:03

I have an ectropian. And pinky bleed almost after all hard poo's. Few red bleeds too. Im 24 weeks tomo. And I think its easing now.

BraayTigger · 26/12/2017 23:12

I am 17 weeks pregnant and had bleeding after poo too at circa 14 weeks. Only happened once but was def from vagina. All is fine. Good luck with scan, am sure all is ok try not to worry xx

purplek1tty · 27/12/2017 09:52

Just to try and reassure you that this also happened to me at 12 & 16 weeks. I'm now 40+6 and baby is fine. No obvious cause -
just straining from a bowel movement, even small straining can cause some irritation of the cervix. Please enjoy your holiday, it's probably nothing to worry about and as the doc says a scan wouldn't change the outcome at this point.

TipBoov · 27/12/2017 09:54

This happened to me in early pregnancy, it was frightening but everything was fine x
