Lump in breast- milk duct or does it need checking?

Guessing it's normal for breasts to be a bit lumpy at this stage (37weeks)?
Just noticed it and a bit worried-obviously can't get immediately checked out with the timing.

Where is it? How big? Is it movable? Is it painful? It's almost certainly a milk duct.

Prob a duct, best to get it checked anyway

Thanks thingymabob. It's small sort of pea sized but thinner. I just had to hunt to find it again and yes it sort of moves.

Thanks user. I have an appointment with the GP on 3rd Jan so could get it checked then.

Please get it checked. Not to alarm but I lost a friend who discovered a lump whilst breast feeding her daughter.

Hi Zaalitje, I am sorry about your friend, how awful. I will ask the Dr to check it at my 38 week appointment next week.

If it's weighing on your mind at all, get it checked. I had one earlier in my pregnancy, got I checked out and the hospital couldn't have been nicer about it. I was told it was normal lactational breast changes but that I'd absolutely done the right thing getting it checked out.

Good luck, strongly suspect it will be fine but hugs and empathy to you.

Hi did you get it checked?
I had a cyst right under my nipple which came on after I stopped breastfeeding my son. I went to check it out with gp just to be fobbed off. I was very bothered by it and went to check it off again just to be fobbed off without even an examination, yes the gp lady did not even touch me and said it was all normal in the duct so no problem. My cyst was hard but movable. Two years on I got pregnant unexpectedly. Went to check this cyst with gp again because it started growing. She reluctantly said she will refer me but she said the wait will be very long. To my surprise I was called into a breast clinic in two days. There I sat noticeably pregnant already as it was my 3rd pregnancy among the middle age and elderly very nervous women thinking I will be quickly looked at and then sent home with nothing to worry about. Things sort of progressed in a weird way from there on. Next thing I remember I am being sent off to the ultrasound. I was thinking great they will just confirm there is nothing to worry about. I was then in the ultrasound room and the lady keeps saying she can not tell if this is bad cyst or good. She said she could see the vessels I the cyst so no great, next thing I know I am getting numbed for biopsy. And then it sank in that it may be not be ok. A week later I returned for results, as I was waiting alone this time. I noticed a children's book in the waiting area. It was called 'mommy has a bump' I think which referred to a cancerous lump as a bump. I sort of thought let me not have a need to read that with my 2 children, that moment really remained with me. Biopsy came back as pre cancerous cells but the advise was to wait until after the baby comes out to operate but return sooner if anything changes. I left but couple weeks later my nipple went inverted. I returned and it was decided to take it out. I had a surgery at 20 weeks of pregnancy to remove it. They removed one duct with the cyst. It all healed and I am still breastfeeding my now 8.5 months old daughter. If I waited to remove the cyst after the pregnancy I would of had a risk for this to develop into breast cancer and since the surgery would of need to be done right after the baby is out there would of been no chance for breastfeeding. Pregnancy can make cancerous cell change very fast with all growth hormones so it is always better to be cyst free for it. You are at the end of your pregnancy which is good since if there is anything sinister it can be worked out without the baby in the body. Hopefully all well though, best of luck :-)

Hi thevoiceofreason and babynelly. Not had it checked yet but it's still there ( thought it had gone but just found it).
Thanks for your stories. Babynelly that must have been so scary. I will definitely ask the GP about it next week when I am there.
So glad they could do the surgery with up in pregnant and you are right, at least even if this was something sinister it's not long to go at all now.
