I got a BFP this morning (yay). I guess I'm about 2 weeks gone. Thing is I'm on holiday somewhere which does a lot of seafood. Am I ok to eat it?! Did I read somewhere that you only share a bloodstream after 5 weeks? Thanks in advance x

Don’t eat anything the official government guides say not to. You would never forgive yourself.

Gestation is counted from the first day of your last period so you are likely to be around 4 weeks.

I'd only asked my midwife about eating fish and prawns and she'd said as long as it's cooked it's fine. But I would suggest you make your judgement based on the places you're eating. I'm guessing you're somewhere coastal so it should at least be as fresh as can be.

Make sure all seafood is fully and properly cooked, and avoid seafood high in mercury.

It's easy enough to google pregnancy-appropriate foods - spend a little time looking it all up and you'll be fine.

Congratulations 😊

What do the locals do? Ask them.

Mercury high ones like shark are a no no but your bog standard stuff like sardines, prawns etc are fine as long as you are happy with the way they are cooked.

There should be no reason you can't eat seafood. Even high mercury fish, like tuna, is fine in moderation. I personally ate a whole platter of raw oysters when I was 8 weeks (it was delicious). Just be mindful of where you get them from and how they are stored if you can be, just like you would any food.

This is the NHS advice www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx

Thanks everyone. I'm a bit shocked, it was only my first month of trying!
