...what would you go for? Thinking of preference rather than money side.

lol MrsBadger! You never know, designer clothes for babies nowadays...

MrsBadger · 23/04/2007 17:13

even then I certainly wouldn't be ironing the wretched thngs - they'd be nicely folded in a drawer with all the sensible vests and babygrows...

LIZS · 23/04/2007 17:21

does anyone actually use the bath part more than once I wonder !

Pheebe · 23/04/2007 17:40

My sons 2years and 8 months old and I still use the changing table in the bathroom for everything from changing his nappy to getting him dressed. It was a godsend as I had a bad back for the first year and now I'm pregnant again its great as I don't have to grovel around on the floor. I did and always have done all his changes in the bathroom - bathroom is for toilet stuff lol(but I am a bit obsessive like that!)

We had a cot top changer in his bedroom (mainly to save me having to get down on the floor) which was brill for changes in the night as we didn't have to bring him out into the bright light and risk waking him up fully. He was sleeping through from about 6 months so we didn't get that much use out of it.

If you can do a bit of woodwork they're really easy to make.

Change mat and floor gets my vote too.

NoNickname · 23/04/2007 17:45

Changing mat on the floor here too (I know a child who is permanently disabled from falling off a changer unit).

BabyMadwithBump · 23/04/2007 17:54

Both a waste of time and money, we got a chest of drawers and put a baby changing mat on top!

EdieMcredie · 23/04/2007 19:22

The wardrobe isn't tall, it's small. And I think it has shelves inside and some drawers at bottom so actually very handy. Seeing as everything else I have is second hand or bought for us I don't mind spending the money.

MerryMarigold · 23/04/2007 19:24

i had a unit (secondhand - given by a friend) and it was great, but only used till 6 months or so. Even then, was a bit late as he could roll (not supposed to use after rolling). Now I am used to changing him on floor, so prob with a 2nd child the floor will be fine too. I wouldn't spend the money on one as it is quite cumbersome and doesn't last for long. Think the cot ones are better...

CorrieDale · 23/04/2007 19:26

I really like the cot-top changer. Quick, convenient, good for DH's bad back and my huge bump. The changing unit was an absolute waste of money - took up too much space, was a load of hassle. DS is wriggly but he's never fallen off - in fact, he wriggles more on floor-level changes because he knows he's not going to hit the deck.

When he moves into a bed (which I am putting off for as long as possible), we'll change him on the floor, thereby getting a lot fitter as we chase after him.

I just used a chest of drawers ans stood they so they never rolled off. Much bigger tii, the changers don't last for as long as they are in nappies.

alex8 · 23/04/2007 19:42

I meant much bigger too.

How long do you use a kids wardrobe for?

annobal · 23/04/2007 19:54

I tended to use a mat on the floor - I hated going upstairs everytime DS needed a nappy change, but then I'm lazy...

I had a changing unit, and used it for about 12 weeks. After that DS managed to start flipping himself sideways in such an alarming way I gave up and started using a mat on the floor.

Having said that, my bf still uses her cot top changer with my 2 yo god daughter!

The changing unit is useful as a cupboard and ds would have used a cot top changer as a climbing frame.

I would prob go for the changing unit if you need a chest of drawers or cupboard for the room anyway, and cot top - or nothing - if you don;t.

KnayedFrot · 23/04/2007 20:10

Oh, and once he started solids, I found changing him in the bathroom in proximity of running water and the BATH, was useful.

lizziemun · 23/04/2007 21:52

MIL gave us a changing unit, which saved my back as suffered realy badly. But i also used a normal chaning mat on the dinning table during the day.

The changing unit we has a bath, but also shelves which were great for storage for nappies etc.

I would if i could justify the cost, also if i had the space for it.

lucy5 · 23/04/2007 21:59

Neither, buy a mat and you can put it anywhere. Infact i do ds on my knee quite alot of the time now.

Twinmummyx2 · 23/04/2007 22:03

Change unit- i had a wooden mamas and papas one that had shelves a a bar to prevent the rolling of babies (up to a certain age)...we put wicker baskets on the shelves and it lasted ages...still have it now as a bedroom peice of furniture...it saved my back too....one of the best baby items i bought!

SmileyGirl · 23/04/2007 22:13

my mother-in-law showed me how to do even the messiest bums on my knee from the day they were born until they wore their last nappy. I shall be eternally grateful to her!

SmileyGirl · 23/04/2007 22:15

forfot that we bought a lovley set of drawers with a fold-out changing unit on top - looked great until I squashed the little finger of my TWO WEEK old dd in it. Stick to your knee - much safer!

Hopeitwontbebig · 24/04/2007 09:11

I'd have to say neither!! Sorry! When we were having DS1 we bought a lovely changing unit with drawers and doors etc.... I think I used it twice! We always used the floor, or our bed.

munz · 24/04/2007 09:15

I have a changing station, we used it for 6 weeks then went to changing J on the floor, he was only on the station to dress him - I got fed up carrying him up staris every time he needed a bottom change.

MIL brought ours from babies are us and I think it was £50 so wasn't too bad. it's now used for J's books, and nappies instead of his clothes and nappies etc.
