Hot baths

Anyone else have hot baths?
I don't mean boiling hot, I make sure my skin doesn't change colour, and my bump is never submerged, but I don't see the point of a Luke warm bath. It's cold within 5 minutes. I'm aching all over and sometimes need a hot one to relax my muscles. I've been mainly having showers but these have been hot too. Again, skin doesn't change colour, but feels nice and hot against my skin, not warm.
Been googling it this morning and scaring myself that I've done some damage!

I avoided them for the first 12 weeks but am now back in love with them. I make sure I have a glass of water with me and don't stay in too long.
I remember reading that it's something to do with raising your body temp above 37 degrees but baby was fine at 20 week scan this week. I also make sure my DP is in the house when I have a bath in case I get dizzy getting out.

I like a warm bath usually hot before being pregnant. If it gets a bit cold I just add in more hot water but not to the point it's too hot. I always have a Bottle of water with me too.

I had them - you'll be fine. You'd have to be uncomfortably hot to raise your core temperature.

The dizziness on getting out is the only thing to worry about.

I think it’s fine. I’m 32 weeks and I’ve had a few. Can’t stand a tepid bath! With a bath, the water starts cooling as soon as you run it. Things like hot tubs and saunas should be avoided because they maintain the temperature

I do. I live for baths this time of year
. I always ask for a supply of lush bath bombs for Christmas :)

I don’t get uncomfortably hot though to the point where it makes you pink/dizzy. You know your body, you’ll be fine :) x

I had hot baths and they were amazing after being on my feet all day!
I asked my GP if they were safe and he said absolutely not, think "boil in the bag rice".
I told my MW what GP said and she almost fell off the chair laughing and said as long as I'm not getting out wearing a 3 piece scald then go ahead and enjoy.

Saunas don't need to be avoided, they don't raise your core temperature enough to be an issue (official health advice in Finland is to continue to use the sauna as normal during pregnancy, just taking care not to get dizzy and fall over). Hot tubs potentially can so they should be avoided.

I've had hot baths through my 4 pregnancies and been fine. Obviously not scalding hot but enough to relax aches and pains and be comfortable. I just kept topping up between hot and cold so it didn't get too hot.

BigBaboonBum · 22/12/2017 12:14

I think I’d fall apart without a hot bath for my muscles and joints at the end of the day. Not scolding but still

Ct17218 · 22/12/2017 13:06

I love a hot bath! The baby however isn’t so keen, but she hates it when I drink a cup of tea! I’ve had hot baths throughout my pregnancy as I’m always really cold and I’m now 32wks with a healthy little diva !

ElizabethLemon · 22/12/2017 14:10

We don’t have a shower so baths are my only option and I’m not taking a cold bath!

EmmaLou3422 · 22/12/2017 14:11

Thanks for your replies. Google managed to convince me that I had probably caused deformities in my baby. He always wriggles about when I'm in the bath, not sure if it's love or hate!

Like you I don't see the point in lukewarm baths, but haven't dared take a hot bath because it's not recommended in pregnancy. So I haven't had a bath for about seven months. I've had to do without loads of things including food, alcohol and medication, so not having a hot bath is just one more temporary sacrifice I've had to put up with.
