Hello, I was recommended this app through a family member, last month it came across to me after getting very ill I found out I was 6months and 1 day far gone. This is a massive shock as you could imagine, considering I'm still only 18. I'm 7months today and I've taken in how real this is and I'm really excited.
However the dad of the baby wasn't in my life for a long period of time when conceived and I have let him know yet he has asked me to give the baby away for adoption, he doesn't want anything to do with him and has blocked me.
I really don't agree with the way he has reacted but just wanted a bit of advice on what to do? If anyone has been in a situation like this? Should he be on the birth certificate? Just need some advice thank you :)

I had my first scan last week to find out I have a healthy little boy and his due date is 15th Febuary

It's not his choice. He can have an opinion but that's as far as it goes. Have you a good support system around you?

BigBaboonBum · 21/12/2017 10:32

No he shouldn’t be on he birth certificate as that gives him parental responsibility, doesn’t it? If he doesn’t want to be in their life then bugger him... but you should make sure you apply for child support from him and then forget he exists if he’s being like that.

But asshole sperm donor aside! Congratulations! You have better things to think about now, it’s very exciting!! Smile Flowers

Do you understand if he is on the birth certificate it will give him equal rights to your baby? You will struggle to make decisions regarding your child if he did decide to be involved - If he turns nasty that can make life even more difficult for you. If he steps up and is a decent dad you can add him to the bc at any time.

BigBaboonBum · 21/12/2017 10:35

I thought so @Tinselistacky but wasn’t sure, I’d have him nowhere near the birth certificate tbh!

Bumdishcloths · 21/12/2017 10:41

If he has shown so little concern/interest, and actively suggested adoption, I personally would not put him on the birth certificate- that gives him equal rights in decision making etc, and if he's feeling vindictive in the future it could make your life very difficult. On the one hand I usually advocate that the father should have the choice to be involved but having seen friends fall foul of emotionally manipulative, absent fathers to their children, in this case I'd steer well clear of him.

I hope you have a lot of support around you. I agree with the other ladies, if he wants no involvement then I wouldn't put him on the birth certificate

You can’t put someone on a birth certificate.

They have to come with you to co register the birth.

Unless he’s 100% committed it’s best he’s not on it.

Congratulations 👶🏼

Thank you guys! I have great support around me, my mum is most supportive ive never felt so supported from my family. I have given him the choice if he truly doesn't want to be apart of this and his answer remains the same, he doesn't. I have told him to just not contact me unless he has changed his mind and we can talk. Thank you all so much xx

I was just turned 19 when I had my daughter

She is 30 now!

I didn't put her father on the birth certificate as he disappeared.

Toasttea · 21/12/2017 21:09

You sound very positive which is great. So glad you have great support. Wishing you a happy pregnancy!

TeaAndPjs · 21/12/2017 21:33

I'd say don't put him on but here in Scotland (don't know if it's same where you are) fathers name can only be put on birth certificate if he's present at the registration unless married and can provide marriage certificate.

Good luck with the rest of pregnancy!
