Cheese worries!

What a ridiculous thread title 🙄

I'm having a mini worry because I'm abroad (Hungary) and have just eaten some buffalo mozzarella (second time this week , maybe 3 slices in total). I suddenly thought I should check if it's pasteurised and the hotel aren't sure because it comes from outside the hotel 😫 it was fairly solid mozzarella (ie I assume packaged not fresh) and I've been so good at staying away from the "no" foods!

It'll be ok right? I'm not due to see midwife for another 3-4 weeks, would I need a blood test? Gutted I might have done something that's not "right" for my baby... this can and can't is exhausting!

Honestly you’ll be fine, it’s very unlikely anything will be wrong because of eating the cheese. It’s best to be avoided but plenty of people don’t follow the guidelines anyway! Relax Flowers

Thank you, I know it's silly, I just want my healthy happy bubba in my arms, 27 weeks to go 🙄😅

As far as I know the only cheeses to 'avoid' are mould-ripened/veined cheeses, mozzarella is a fresh cheese and not mould-ripened/veined. That said, I eat all cheeses anyway as long as they're pasteurised (and anyway, you can eat any of them cooked) and I've never avoided any of the cheeses on the 'banned' list in any of my pregnancies. But then most listeria infections have come from foods not on the list in recent years, so you can't stress too much about it. The highest risk commercial food in terms of listeria risk is actually bean sprouts! And that's not even on the NHS list at all.

Hi, try not to worry. My midwife told me that if she was pregnant now there would be nothing she wouldn't eat - she'd just take the normal precautions like checking it wasn't off or whatever. You can ring your midwife if you think it will help but I don't think they will do blood tests. You'd know if you had gastro by now I think. Enjoy the rest of your break.

Google how many people a year get listeria and then get it from cheese - it cheered me up when I forgot and had goats cheese! Most people get it from dirty burger vans, unwashed salad etc.

Am sure you'll be totally fine Smile

The NHS states mozzarella is safe.
