Hello,

I need some advice on what I should be doing. I’ve been unwell since Saturday with a sinus throat infection. I’m a newborn/baby photographer and had no choice but to get back to work Monday because of it being the week before Christmas even though I’m pushing myself as I feel really run down. Just a moment ago I passed out at the end of my portrait session and luckily the Dad of the baby was able to catch me and help me to a seat. They stayed with me while I rang the midwife but the midwife said ‘we don’t see ladies at 18 weeks, your sugar levels or iron levels are probably low so go to your GP and rest’.

I don’t really see the point in going out to the GP when they aren’t trained to help pregnant ladies and they will either just take my blood pressure and tell me to eat or drink.

Do I need to worry about my baby because of the way I’ve been feeling? Should I just rest up for the rest of today and eat and drink lots and not worry too much about baby?

Thanks

I had this around 18 weeks. My blood pressure was low and I had a blood test done at the drs which found I was anemic. I got put on iron tablets. Anyway dr phoned me the other week to say I’m still anemic levels still dropping (I’m 23+3) and have now upped my tablets to three times a day 😫 phone drs and ask them to do a blood test. My first levels was only slight anemic but I was very symptomatic with it (light head, dizzy spells, stood up too long felt like I was going to pass out) so they gave me the tablets and just upped them recently.
Hope you feel better soon

It could be the symptoms of a virus, or low blood sugar or iron or low blood pressure. I'd agree that the GP is the way to go if you're really worried - they're not as specifically trained as midwives but they're doctors and can still diagnose stuff! Is there anything in particular you're expecting them to do other than blood pressure check, general advice and blood tests?

Yiu really do need to go to the GP. It could be low blood pressure (drink lots), low blood sugar (eat regularly) low iron (take spatone) or a virus or infection. If you are coming into contact with newborns, yiu really need to rule out the last two.
