Ringing (or not) EPU with bleeding at 14 weeks and rh neg

This is my third pregnancy. First was a miscarriage, second resulted in DD.

I had spotting a few times during my pregnancy with DD from about 20 weeks onwards and had to get anti-d a couple if times as well as the routine ones.

This time I’ve had spotting since about 10 weeks. Most recently at 12 +5. I rang my midwife who said to ring the EPU as I was now over 12 weeks and would need the anti d. Spoke to EPU who basically seemed confused why I was ringing and said they wouldn’t give me the anti d as they only gave it if they had done something to me and not for spotting.

So I left it, and assumed things had changed.

Last night after DTD for the first time since finding out I am pregnant I’ve had some bright red bleeding. I have a cervical erosion so it’s not particularly worrying. I’m now 14 + 5.

I got told off by EPU in my 2nd pregnancy for not coming in quicker in exactly the same circumstances at about 22 weeks(I rang mid afternoon the next day). I’m now confused whether I should ring EPU or not, when I rang them two weeks ago they were clear they wouldn’t give me the anti d for ‘spotting’ yet just a year ago they were telling me off for not coming in a few hours sooner for what was essentially spotting with a known cause.

I’ve already rung my midwife twice this pregnancy about spotting and I don’t want to be ‘that’ woman. If it wasn’t for the rh neg I wouldn’t even be giving it a second thought.

Ring them or better still go in.

It’s (at least) an hours drive away so not exactly somewhere I can just pop to. Especially not with DD who has been awake since 4.30 with a horrible cold.

I know I should just ring them. I just hate being spoken to like a silly child, or someone who is trying to scam a scan ,which is what’s happened every time I’ve had contact with this particular EPU over the last 3 years.

I’m not worried, I know what has caused the bleeding and I don’t see why if they wouldn’t give me it 2 weeks ago why they it would be different this time?

FWIW it’s also a shitty horrible injection and usually takes them half a day to administer it for some reason so I’m not exactly in a rush as you can probably tell...

I completely understand the feeling of not wanting to be 'that person' etc - but defo call them and/or your midwife. (I'm a fellow rhesus negative person!) All the guidance is that if you have bleeding and are r neg you should have an injection so just calmly state that and don't let them fob you off. Obv I know it's a big fuck off injection and not pleasant. X

I’ve left a message for the midwife but from experience it could easily be half a day or more before I hear back.

Maternity services are really disjointed in my area as I sit right on the border between two CCGs, so my midwife is employed by CCG A but all my scans and EPU type stuff is completed by CCG B.

CCG B won’t accept referrals or blood results etc from CCG A which means everything ends up being done twice (including my booking appt and bloods!) and I go through a massive palaver every time I need to book a scan or anything.

Unfortunately the alternative is to go to the hospital in CCG A which is and hour and a half away and even more of a pain to get to.

I'm also rh negative and after a big bleed at 8 weeks I was told by EPU, and it's been reinforced by my midwife that any bleed after 12 weeks and I was to get in touch with either my midwife or EPU for the anti-d injection and that it's most effective if given within 72 hrs so please get in touch with them.

I understand that zaa and indeed followed that advice with no issues on a number of occasions in my previous pregnancy.

The problem this time is that this is the second bleed I have had after 12 weeks with this pregnancy and they told me last time that they wouldn’t give me the anti d for ‘spotting’. Since they wouldn’t give me it 2 weeks ago I’m reluctant to ring the same department with the same problem to be fobbed off again.

I was there for 5 hours last time I went in for unscheduled anti d in my previous pregnancy. It’s a very busy EPU.

Is your midwife nicer, in general, than the EPU? Is there any way you can contact her and get her to phone them even though they're in a different area?
