Pitted edema

I'm 16 weeks, at my midwife appt last week I was asked if I had noticed any swelling to hands & feet, at that point I hadn't.
I've just noticed puffy ankles, when I poke with a finger and then move hand away the indent remains for several seconds afterward. This is nothing to be concerned about is it?
As it's Friday night I won't be able to contact midwives until Monday to ask, this isn't a question labour Ward are likely to be interested in either.

Call 111 for some advice.

Pitting oedema could be a sign of all sorts of things. What was your blood pressure like at your last appointment?

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 16/12/2017 01:16

Call 111

zaalitje · 16/12/2017 03:38

She took BP but didn't mention the reading so I assume it's fine.

I've had this before but after a long haul flight, yesterday was a normal day with no long period of sitting down.

111 are useless, they'll just tell me to go to hospital as they have the couple of times I called before (non preg related) only for drs to roll their eyes when I said 111 had asked me to get checked at A&E. Also hospital and hour away and no buses till Monday.

You still need to do it - you’re pregnant - you can’t take changes with your baby and no, swelling like that doesn’t sound normal

zaalitje · 16/12/2017 09:29

I can't, we have no way of getting there except a round trip in a taxi that will cost upward of £120, hospital being an hour away, besides we've about £15 in cash on us and no cash points in the village and there is no one we know who can give us a lift.

I've found 111 absolutely useless before, takes hours to phone back then they always tell you to go to hospital and get checked, I've even had that advice for tooth pain, when I was calling to ask about layering different types of pain killer.

I'll get attitude from the drs at A&E for wasting their time like each time I had followed 111 advice before. I'll get a bollocking from EPU for over reacting as I did when I self refered for sub chorionic bleed, I got told off for crying (previous miscarriages) and "worrying about nothing and these things happen) they might happen but enough blood in less than 5 minutes to fill a panty liner and go through knickers and skirt was scary and unexpected.

I thought all women got swollen ankles? I can hear them going at me again for even thinking about it.

Do you have a local walk in centre you could go to?

My friend works in A&E and says 111 are a nightmare for just sending anyone and everyone there.

Could you call the EPU for advice maybe? They should be able to tell you if you can wait until Monday to see a GP.

thingymaboob · 16/12/2017 14:51

Ring the maternity ward. They'll give you the best advice on where to go.

ChocolateButton15 · 16/12/2017 16:02

If your blood pressure and urine sample was normal last week I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe text your midwife or call her Monday. You could also call the maternity unit today as its always open, the phone number will be in your notes.

abbsisspartacus · 16/12/2017 16:05

Your dehydrated

zaalitje · 16/12/2017 16:30

Thanks for all the replies.

Trust me, not dehydrated, wee is pale and clear and I've had plenty of water.

Called the pregnancy assessment unit, they weren't bothered, told me if I was still worried on Monday I could try my midwife then or GP (already know GP has no appt till after Xmas though).
