Pregnancy Headaches

Hi

I’m 15 +4 but have been suffering headaches for a good few weeks on and off now. Pregnant with my 2nd so I know it’s not totally uncommon to have headaches, but it’s driving me a bit loopy this time around. I’m relying on them 4head sticks as paracetamol don’t really seem to do a lot for me! Just wondering if anyone else is getting a lot of headaches and or has a good coping strategy?

I’m seeing midwives on Monday so will be getting blood pressure etc checked then! Did the dreaded google check and wish I hadn’t Blush signed myself up for an early grave looking on there!

I found lucazade sport helped mine (electrolytes).

Feel for you. I had hideous headaches upto about 19 weeks.

Just really push fluids. Like 2-3 Litres a day.

BigBaboonBum · 15/12/2017 19:53

I was plagued by headaches in previous two pregnancies, absolutely radiated me. All I can suggest is to make sure you graze throughout the day and keep fluids up. Cordial was the best drink for me as I recall. Lucozade as PP said is a good recommendation. Mine did ease off in third trimester thankfully. Heat or cold helps people (for me it’s heat) so try applying whichever of those helps to your head also Flowers ... oh and sleeping! Naps are great :-)

I used to use those gel patches that you stick on your head. I used to sleep with one on and drive to and from work with one on too. I thought they were great.

Ice cold full sugar coke helped me.
Keep hydrated and eat more often.

Mine thankfully eased around 18 weeks.

I gave up on 4head and used vaporub haha must have smelt amazing

Rainshowers · 15/12/2017 20:16

I had horrible headaches too. I did have my eyes tested just in case (I wear glasses already) but they hadn't changed at all so I put it down to a pregnancy thing.

I found keeping hydrated helped, and sometimes I just had to close my eyes for ten minutes ( not easy with a job and a three year old!). I also found driving would often set them off too so tried to get DH to do as much as possible for a few weeks.

I'm almost 33 weeks now and I haven't had one for a couple of months so hopefully yours will improve too.

Ah thank you all for the advice! Will try all these, anything to ease them off a bit. Bought them gel strips today that you put on your head and they seem to help a tad. I don’t remember having such a long period of them in my first pregnancy, but didn’t have another little one to run around after either!

I know the headaches are from hormones but I really did find massages helped.

Redken24 · 15/12/2017 20:35

Haha well it worked kind of for me. Anything I tried haha

user1513504339 · 18/12/2017 14:16

Massage is great, gently stretching my neck as there's a muscle in the neck which I can't recall the name of that can cause headaches so I've gently massaged my neck too.

And lots and lots of water, even if you're peeing a lot! And heaps of sleep.

Trying to calm my mind helped too, easier said than done!

peachgreen · 19/12/2017 11:59

Full fat Coke and two paracetamol was the only thing that shifted mine. And I LOATHE full fat Coke.

TheEdge266 · 19/12/2017 12:51

Around 15 weeks is notorious for bad headaches. Nothing helped mine really except no screen time and sleep

Potteryprincess30 · 19/12/2017 16:03

@peachgreen yes! all these alternatives will not work at all. Its science so take the drugs and drink a sweet caffeine drink and you may have to do this every day for months but its fine to do this, my midwife and doctor said even taking paracetamol every day while pregnant is absolutely fine as long as you stick to the guideline and don't over dose yourself. Especially if you limit yourself to 4 a day.

My midwife said never take just one as it will do nothing, always 2 and try and have some caffeine with it too like a coffee or as Peachgreen says full fat coke. You can also buy paracetamol with caffeine already in.

newmummytonoah2016 · 19/12/2017 21:40

Ah thank you so much everyone! Touch wood they haven’t been as bad the last few days, so hoping I may be onto something now. Sure I haven’t seen the last of them though! But thanks for all the advice.

Effervescent paracetamol sooooo much better than tablets. Afaik gut motility is reduced in pregnancy so the soluble ones are better. sympathies. horrible things - like.hangovers
