do you have any other symptoms? Bleeding, fever for example?

Do you have any other reason to suspect an ectopic?

Ectopics are dangerous, but fortunately they don't happen very often.

Other causes of the pain could be ligament pain, trapped wind, bowel spasms.

If you're worried, go to your gp or early pregnancy unit.

No i haven't any other symptoms at mo. Its been happening since yest. I was scrouched down for a bit and after that it started hurting and has been on and off since.

agree with belgo, this is most probably just your ligaments stretching or trapped wind.

when I had my ectopic i had a nagging feeling in my right groin, along with a thin brownish discharge and dizzy spells.

if the niggling pain is really worrying you, then go to your GP and see if you can get referred for an early scan to set your mind at rest.

I don't think it sounds like anything to worry about. I got pains like that a lot during pregnancy, due to ligaments stretching, cramp like pain.

Ectopic pregnancies are usually associated with severe pain, fever, diarrhea, sometimes bleeding sometimes no bleeding. (but not always all of those symptoms)

the pain with an ectopic is generally unbearable, not niggling pain, agree with others, think this is just embedding pain.

Thank you. You have relaxed me a little. I have my first midwife app on monday so I will mention it but try not to worry about it.
Thank you so much MN is great

I had pains and was told to go to the Early Assessment Unit where they examined me and gave me blood tests and scans and things.

According to the doctor and ectopic would have been pains up to my shoulder. What I have is ovarian cysts which are probably the egg 'casing' attached itself to my ovary- perfectly normal apparently.

If you're unhappy still then ring the midwife and she will advise you what to do. I am very glad I was sent to the EAU as it put my mind at ease

bambino, I agree your symptoms don't immediately sound like an ectopic but definitely mention to mw

Just a note of caution, I had an ectopic and had no pain at all, in fact I didn't even know I was pregnant, 1st sign was bleeding, a constant, dripping but not heavy bleed. They let me go for over 2 weeks after bleeding onset without scan and still had no pain, ended up losing the tube. Insist on a scan immediately if you're worried, don't accept no for an answer. if it is an ectopic it could mean the difference between saving and losing a tube.

I've had one, so I know the symtoms that I had.

SEVEAR pain in the abdomen
hot & cold sweat
Pain in the shoulder.

I've had two and both times I expirenced this pain. I don't think you need to be worried about ectopic, but at the same time I am not a doctor. If you are worried, contact your doctor. Good luck! I'm sure your'll be fine.

When I was in touch with the Early Pregnancy Unit they said one sided pain was the main symptom to watch out for and to ignore more general period pain. They also said it didnt have to be severe pain and could just be niggling so it sounds like you should definately mention it on Monday.

Piffle · 21/04/2007 20:05

mine was prune juice/brown discharge, then woken by severe one sided pain and shoulder pain about 9 hrs later. Collapsed
pain was very very severe.

YOu could also try calling the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust on MOnday. Perhaps visit website in the meantime:

Sorry to go against what everyone else is syaing, but for my ectopic I did have niggling pains in my side, in the night leading upto my tube rupturing in the middle of the night - which was unbearable pain.

I did have a browny/red discharge as well, felt tired and exhausted but didn't have any shoulder pain.

However, I also had niggling pains in my side when I was pg with ds too, and that was the normal cycst you have when pg.

So your pains could/and probably are perfectly normal, so try not to worry. And discuss it with the midwife when you see her.

PanicPants · 21/04/2007 20:51

Sorry that was supposed to be niggling pains in the 2 weeks leading upto it. Not in the night!

AitchTwoOh · 21/04/2007 21:12

i'd mention it to the midwife, but it's really just one symptom of either a. being pregnant or b. having an ectopic. for the record i didn't have any pain to speak of with my ectopics, bleeding was my main symptom, but i was collapsing with pain when i was actually pregnant with my DD.
it's good to be aware, but just at the moment i don't think there's anything to worry about. tell the midwife, and keep an eye out for bleeding.
if for some reason you are really overwhelmingly convinced that there is something wrong, though, then tbh i wouldn't ignore that feminine intuition. keep vigilant, but don't drive yourself crazy in the process. congrats on your pregnancy.

Thank you all so much for your advice. The pain calmed down yest. I still mentioned it to mw and told her about what I was feeling. She said that where I had had dd my stomach muscles were not as strong as they have been so all my ligaments are stretching and getting ready.
