I've miscarried...how do I know when it's over?

Hi,

So over the weekend I had some spotting that was getting gradually worse. On Monday I had a scan which told me I was only measuring 6 weeks when I should have been 9 and no heartbeat detected. Last night the cramps and lower back ache started and bleeding continued to worsen.

Today from about 6am I had bad cramping (but not unmanageable) and I was passing a lot of blood. I was having to change my pad every 10-15 minutes and each time I went to the loo I passed very large clots. I phoned the midwife and went to the hospital who said my cervix was opening and miscarriage was imminent. By the time the doctor had examined me at about 1oclock the bleeding had almost stopped.

I'm still having some cramps but it's no worse than regular period pains and very minimal bleeding since. Is it possible that I passed everything this morning or should I be expecting worse to come...?

If anyone has any words of wisdom to share I would be very grateful. Will I need to go back to the hospital again? How long does a miscarriage take? What should we do now? I just feel a little bit in limbo again as the doctor just told us to go home and come back again if it becomes unmanageable. What happens now? Xx

Ok I'm glad Metric answered you too as I think I just happened to have a different kind of miscarriage. Mine was all over, gushing wise, in one night. I had that bleeding where you had to be on the toilet for about 3 hours and then I passed the foetus (7.5 weeks size) and then I had to go to hospital with the pain afterwards. I reckon every miscarriage is different but at your next scan you'll be checked and hopefully all will be fine x

Thanks everyone for your support. Guess I just have to wait it out. Hopefully it will ease up soon! X

How are you getting on OP? CakeBrew

@Elmosmum getting there. Still bleeding a lot. Had terrible cramps for the last two days and a really bad headache today, I guess that's my hormones coming down? But feeling much better this evening. I'm really hoping I'm through the worst of it now. I think I passed the sac last night too x

@WigglyWigglyWooo oh big hand hold for you BrewCake my hormones were all over the place for a few weeks so you might be a bit up and down for a while (I was a complete soggy mess). I does take a little time to heal your heart so be kind to yourself. I chose to tell a few carefully chosen friends and that helped me. Thanks

The diarrhoea may just be your hormone levels dropping - I always had terrible constipation in my first trimester, and knew I had had a missed miscarriage when that suddenly cured itself Sad

I think I may have passed the sac today. I decided to go for a walk around a shop and was overcome with intense pain. I had to go and sit in the car I thought I was going to pass out! At home when I went to the loo I passed a really big greyish clot. I'm really hoping this is it now, just want to move forwards but I feel like I'm stuck at the moment 😔

I thought I passed the sac before but now I'm not sure as this was much bigger 😕 also at my appointment today they said I have an incomplete miscarriage and I opted to continue naturally. But they said I don't have to go back at all now? Only if a pregnancy test in 3 weeks is positive? X

Oh it sounds like you're over the worst of it physically. Yes they ask you to retest just to make sure it's all over I think. Keep an eye on yourself and speak to the EPU if you're worrying. Go and buy yourself a big box of chocolates and put your feet up Thanks

Oh Wiggly. Sending you virtual hugs. Take good care of yourself. Be kind to you. Take your time to heal.

WigglyWigglyWooo · 20/12/2017 11:45

Thank you both of you. I'm feeling much better physically but emotionally I'm still a bit of a wreck. I'm not really an emotional person but found myself ending up in tears over really trivial things! X

Yes your hormones will be all over the show. I was a soggy mess for 4-5 weeks. After that I did feel better though. Big hugs Thanks
