Worried about listeria antibodies on blood test...

I decided to get tested privately for various infections after a high nuchal translucency measurement at twelve week scan. Now in second trimester

The listeria test has come back as 1.10 borderline titre and the comment from the lab says this is primarily due to a past infection.

If so I'm surprised as thought listeriosis very rare. I'd assume it would show higher antibody concentration or they'd call me if they thought a possible "past infection" would have been during the pregnancy - but now I'm kind of worried as I can't find much on Google about reading the results

Does anybody know anything about it? I'll call in morning but worried that the private doctor themselves won't really know as they had to ask their lab about how it worked before

The private GP have got back to me to say that although it's an inactive infection now, it's possible it happened during the pregnancy and therefore I should speak to my midwife or GP. They said they have no way of knowing if baby is affected.

It seems really unlikely to me, (in fact I'm amazed if I've had it at all as seems so rare!) but then again I know nuchal translucency can be linked with infection.

I've tried to reach the consultant I was referred to after scan but sounds like she is really booked up

Does anybody have any experience with listeriosis and pregnancy?

I tested positive during pregnancy (at 30 weeks) for listeria bacteria. They were unable to do the nuchal fold measure as baby was in the wrong position, so I left it.

I was prescribed antibiotics but I didn’t feel unwell. At 36 weeks we discovered our fridge was faulty and not keeping the food cool enough. I’d had one day where I felt sick but just put it down to pregnancy.

Baby was born at 37 weeks and perfectly fine. Speak to your midwife about the results and ask for her advice. Best of luck Cake

Thank you!

Still feel it's unlikely to have been during pregnancy but surprised the dr can't tell by level of antibodies. Equally really worried as I know it can be really serious

Argh! Hope they call back tomorrow

Unfortunately this is one of the reasons that it's not screened for routinely as the results are often difficult to interpret into anything meaningful which can result in a lot of uncertainty and anxiety.
Like you said though I would think it's unlikely that it happened in this pregnancy as you would expect the levels to be higher.
