Iv just visited my midwife at 36 wks & she now seems to think baby has turned head down after being in breech position for most of pregnancy..Hence spending lots of time on big ball & crawling around...I've been told to keep crawling around..Hopefully baby will stay head down as Kingston hospital do C-section instead of breech birth...Scarey

My two year old son moved a lot during my last pregnancy even up to the day of the birth.
I was examined and scanned at 38 weeks and baby was breech. C/S booked for a week later, was examined again on the day, had catheter put in and gown on. Just before I was taken down to theatre they did a last minute scan and baby was head down. There had been very violent movements during the course of the day, even though everyone had told me it was virtually impossible for a baby to change position at such a late stage.
I was talked out of the C/S somewhat to my regret as went on to have a very unpleasant "natural" birth (he was a hefty 9,5).
I was actually quite relieved at thought of C/S as wouldn't have considered a breech birth (they actually didn't mention this option either, just an attempt to manually turn the baby which "turned my stomach" excuse the pun). However I don't know too much about breech births to be honest and I hope that you will be ok whatever happens.

my DD was breech until 38+6 (including successful ECV done at 37wks & she turned breech again the following day!)

I was sure she'd turned as the kicks were in a different place, went for my pre-op clinic appt at 39wks & told them she'd turned the day before, they said there's no way she'd turn so late, until the palpated me & then did a scan to check & I was right so elective c/s cancelled (ended up with an emergency c/s, but that's another story...)

so they can & do turn late, so keep the crawling going.

I think most places these days do a c/s for a breech, particularly first babies - that was the only option I was offered

I remember going to the shallow end if the swimming pool @ 34 weeks & standing on my head.

I also crept from room to room on my hands & knees a lot.

My mum had twins, my sis was first born & she was breech!! This was 38 years ago... how come they were equipped to deal with breech babies then, & now all they offer in most places is a c/section. Although I know there were more deaths etc in those days.

I'd not get your hopes up too soon. My midwife told me that my breech baby was head down, I didn't believe her because I had not felt any big movements. DD was still in breech position and the next week I had a successful EVC (39wks). I did go on to deliver normally however.

hi firefly, i want to comment on your post but i dont want you to feel attacked, its just something that ive been thinking for a while.

once in a while i read posts along the lines 'in the old times they didnt have this and that and women were still having babies....'

the fact that we know some stories of successful breach delivery, it doesnt mean that its safe for all. i think its important to look at numbers, and if overall women lose their babies in breech birth, then c-section sounds very reasonable to me.

i remember another post saying that in the past women werent induced and they were fine... how so? how many went over 42 weeks and lost their babies?

i like the idea of women being given the options, but i guess some hospitals just wont take their chances. and when its not abused, im thankful for c-sections, inductions, or whatever increases the rates of successful births.

the art of delivering a breech baby is being lost, as midwives are not seeing breech birth, as it is straight to c.s on the whole.....it is entirely possible , but you need to feel confident, as do your care givers, about delivering a breech baby...mary cronk writes and lectures a lot about this......

there are a few threads on here, if you search the archives, about tips to turn a breech baby...
